penguin
i had the displeasure of comming across this show last week on channel 4. to say i was SHOCKED at what was being done to dead corpses .... would be an understatement, i just cant understand the point of it - as its being broadcast as a "teaching aid".. to give you an idea.... the bloke froze a dead ladies body - covered it in foam... and SLICED THROUGH her starting from the head and gave a cross examination of "problems she could of had"... i don't think people realise what they are signing up for when they sign a piece of paper stating the body can be used for medical purposes after death.... fair play, this sort of stuff has to be done for progress of science etc etc... but using it to pull more viewers?? i think is taking it too far.... if anything, it should be behind closed doors!... discuss... edd_t
am hoping her or her family consented to it being shown on tv. cant see any problems with it being shown on tv, people have to choice to view it or not. could be intresting. probably could do with being on later at night though... Rob
I wouldn't call Channel 4 "surfing". It is quite shocking when you see a corpse and think that could be someones mother, someone who is watching right now. Ole Dr Gunther is a bit of an artist though. If you saw the episode about circulation where he injects the blood system with a red polymer then dissolves the body away to leave a red sculpture of every vein, artery and capillary, it's a work of pure genius. I think the programmes are very educational and god knows we need it when the only other thing on offer is celebrity love brother island farm. terribleturner
The thing is the Doctor has been doing this for ages and when ever he puts on an exibition in any country he sells out. So it's proven to be very popular and so the obvious way to go would be onto television. The people who sign up aren't like you and me who may donate our body to medicin. They actually donate it to his department. You can usuaully do this at the exibitions but i think you can do it on line too, so in fairness they are aware of what will be done i belive. Charlotte
It was the same guy that had the 'body works' exhibition in London wasn't it? A lot of people have signed up for their bodies to be used by him i believe. Interesting way of seeing how the body works. I don't like it because i haven't quite accepted the whole death thing yet so it freaks me out but generally i think it could make for interesting viewing. Yeah, I agree I think he's amazing... the key thing to remember here is this is just a human body... and it's amazing in so many ways.. his techniques and knowledge are unbelievable... you can't equate these programs with some weird horror movie or something..? it's science, man.... Mike
what do you care anyway... it's not like he's slicing through black flippers or anything..?!
Class One
I've seen more that a "few" in real life up close. They're fascinating.
Bill Prawn
to say i was SHOCKED at what was being done to dead corpses .... Don't know of any other type of corpse;) But from a personal point of view I think it is a fascinating and informative programme. It helps to understand how the body works and is a damn sight better TV than the mind numbing shite that is normally on - Big Brother, Soaps, etc. As has been said before though you don't have to watch it, you have on off button:)

merckx
The English Professeur was good, his explanations were really clear and interesting. But the German bloke cutting the bodies up wasn't necessary at all, I just looked away.
ChrisSZ
As a teacher of Anatomy and Physiology I can say that the programme was an excellent series of teaching aids!!! I have the whole lot taped and use them on a regular basis to illustrate certain points in my lectures. I also managed to take a group of my students to the Body Works exhibition when it was on in London (a wide variety of 'plastinated' bodys showing internal organs, muscle structure, blood vessels etc). Excellent stuff.
ChrisSZ
BTW, this guy actualy has a HUGE list of people waiting to donate their bodys for his exhibitions etc.!!! All with informed consent (i.e. they are told exactly what might be done with their dead corpse - as opposed to a live corpse LOL)
foodfreak
I saw one of these programmes, where an elderly Lady had Bowel Cancer. they showed how it progressed from the original site & how secondary cancers develop. My Father ( in his 80's) has just had this same type of cancer discovered. After Watching that programme, my understanding of the whole cancer process & how it relates to my Dad helped me come to terms with the possible end result. I would give the programme a big thumbs up JOhn
Ian C
Gruesome but necessary. Medical advances only come about by poking and prodding and taking apart, much like working out what's wrong with a car I'll stick to engines though. It's good practice for when they operate on your live corpse so be grateful It freaks me out a bit though so I..... don't watch it -Ian
