Ark
Well, today I blew a boost pipe for the first time. Guess I'm properly part of the turbo club now, eh!?! It was the turbo to SMIC rubber pipe - I guess I didn't tighten up the jubilee clips properly. Anyway, that makes me want a hard pipe kit - who does the nicest? Cheers
terribleturner
That happened when i took my car for a test drive after installing my new fmic. Scared the shit out of me with the noise. You could always just buy better clamps.
toyotatom
Chances are mate if it does it once it will do it again. Or is it just my car these things happen to I had the Samco hose on mine and the jubilee clips couldnt hold it and neither could the t-bolt ones so changed it for the hard pipe. Makes a difference to.
GeordieSteve
HORRIBLE when that happens. Happened to me after about 30 miles on brand new hybrids (after the stocks popped)
Ark
If I bought an FMIC kit (eg Greddy 3 row) it seems to come with hard pipes. Anyone know if they go all the way up to the turbo, or do I still need a separate hard pipe for that connection?
terribleturner
They should do, but a top tip is to buy some better clamps before it all goes on so you have better access. I think Envy do a deal for us members with the clamps.

supRo
Just in case you haven't, use a socket set to tighten the hose clips instead of a screwdriver. I use el cheapo hose clips on hardpipes and have never had a problem even when I first de-catted and touched 1.4-1.5 bar accidently!
b_have
Tip: Use quality s/s Jubilee clips, de-grease the hoses with acetone or similar before fitting.
Chiefgroover
Envy do some real h/duty clips for these, that wont come off!
Gamer
Mikalor clamps are the best to use..... I 'think' they are the ones that Envy are selling. http://www.powerengineering.co.uk/mikalor/
JohnA
I've had mikalor clamps wiggle themselves loose - more than once. They are shiny and slippery on the inside, best used in conjuncion with traditional clamps.
Gamer
I have never had the Mikalors come loose but maybe a little trick that I used to use back in my BMX days might help. What we used to do was to spray some hairspray inside of the handlebar grips before we installed them to help grip a bit. Might be worth trying if you are having issues. JohnA
I think it was their tightening mechanism coming loose, because I'd go after a few months with the 10mm wrench to verify the tightening and find leeway, where there should be none. Ark
Liquid threadlock should sort that out.
JohnA
Yeah, but who really uses loctite on the clamps? We're getting sadder and sadder I'm afraid...
Nick
Be careful with hard pipe kits if you have the original airbox, I couldn't get the one I bought to fit.
