Pete
Why is it we have to stand for these idiots driving round our roads at stupid speeds chipping the crap out of our paint work? I've just passed one, I slowed down as much as I could (as I always do) before he went by, but he was going at some crazy speed. Grit and shit all over the car. I get home and find the bonnet has been peppered with stone chips. F'kin thanks a bunch. So what's the deal with these things? As far as I'm concerned he's caused damage to my vehicle by driving too fast when he's gritting. Do I complain to the council? Bother the Police? Or are we as citizens meant to just put up with it? Ian R
Sods law I was in my daily driver coming home from work this morning on an A road got stuck behind one he turned of the grit and pulled over and allowed me to pass bet he would have carried on and peppered my car of i'd been in the Supe

Steve W
YES, i'm pretty sure you have the right to claim against either the COUNCIL or the GRITTING FIRM. Carol's daughter works for McAlpine and they have the local Road Gritting contract at present. They had to use SMALLER SIZE salt/grit this year because the Council had to settle too many claims for damage LAST year.............. (or THEY did, i'll try to find out which for ya' ) FatS. ps. probably have to state where/when etc etc so make sure to note down everything so you get it right later !! Intresting! 18:25 B5061 Hollyhead road towards Haygate road, Wellington. It's worth a try. Just been out to look at it twice. I know it's nothing compared to other peoples troubles, but it does annoy me.
Max Headroom
Not condoning the gritter lorry but perhaps he has to go faster because there are so few gritters to cover the area. Case in point in the Highlands the council had 9 gritters on the A9 from Dalwhinnie to Inverness, contract went to Bear and the number of gritters went to 3. Guest gzaerojon
really pi$$es me off this. last year i picked up my 300zx from the spray shop, loverly job. but the only route home had just been resurfaced (the cant be ar$ed to do it properly just chuck stones down and let the cars do the rest version) so i drove really slow, untill some pr!ck in a ford siera came flying past me half on the centre of the road (where all the gravel collects in a big heap) showering my car in stones got home to see my new respray reduced to shot blasted prep job gutted!! jamesmark
have you ever noticed that they seem to be out gritting on the mildest of days/nights and like today where i am it was snowing and not a gritter in sight but the council choose to grit the roads when it is not needed and have a risk of accidents when they dont grit when its icy or snowing
DamanC
i too have noticed gritters going much faster this year, im fairly sure most of them are breaking the speed limit.....

RedM
I came up close behind one just after Xmas. I wasn't gaining on him and yet I was doing 70. It was 4 am so, to get passed him, I flew up a sliproad, across the junction and down the other side ahead of him.
Pete
did you get the number plate pete , drop him in it Wish I had. I was to busy staring at the grit and trying not to hit the kerb as I dived as far left as I could.

Our poor old Rover 100 was completely pebble dashed. If I see them on the motorway I just sit well back and take my time.
SkyJawa
I hate it - makes you cringe hearing it hit your car AFAIK - I've heard people successfully claim off the council mate so take it further...........
Kip
Often wondered the same - is there any way to get compensation? I was going back home on the M5 last year and had the unfortunate need to pass a gritter that was traveling along in lane 2 whilst chucking out bleeding great lumps of salt - Pete, next time you see my Supe look at my bonnet - M5 salt gritter did all that damage...., don't forget the bonnet is Aluminium and dents real easy. SkyJawa
AFAIK if you get the reg, road and time you can make a claim............

Pete
Update: I got a call back. Apparently they have transponders on that monitor position and speed of all vehicles so she's checking this out for me. Says these things happen somtimes and she'll sort something out. Awaiting investigation and another call. Fingers crossed.
