RobSheffield
this is kinda for anyone who has removed the rear hub and/or bearing assembly themselves. I recently carried out this task and had Toyota replace a bearing sourced from Steve Manley. having refitted it all back to the car, i have now discovered that the almost inaudible thrumming noise has turned out to be the drive flange very slightly loose in its mounting. i have tightened the centre bolt as much as possible, but still, it is slightly loose. pictures to follow unless someone can suggest a reason that i had not thought of
RobSheffield
anyone with any ideas at all it seems that the drive shaft is not quite secure within the drive flange. im not sure why though, its mostly removed from the car, but i cant see any reason for it being so insecure to be quite honest its f***ing me off right now
4packet
Hi Rob, sorry to drag up this old thread. Did you get to the bottom of this issue in the end? I would be interested to know the outcome. Cheers Martin
RobSheffield
It would appear that Toyota removed the bearing they fitted initially and refitted it, which is a bit of a no-no Removed it all to find the bearing was totally and utterly shot Another new bearing fitted by someone that knew what they were doing and it was all ok. 4packet
That was clever of them! Good ol' dealer network. Its not a 5min/1spanner job either to extract that bearing..... Thanks for the reply
RobSheffield
Absolutely not, but after having done a few its not a 1 day job either
bignum
If you drive on a worn bearing the drive flange wears aswell so you need to replace both really, and possibly the drive shaft due to fretting.
