Steviekid
Maybe I'm missing something here. The 'wired' versions I know of still use the pressure tank to push the actuators into the 'open' position. Are we talking here about another, permanent way of keeping the valves open? (mechanical intervention perhaps?) Because if you have just wired up the VSVs then you still expect boost pressure to move the actuators, don't you? Does this make sense? Ah, I see the confusion. When I say wired I mean I opened the valves by using a foot pump onto the actuators then wrapped wire around the linkages and tightened it to keep them permanently open. JohnA
Gotcha. So they are kept open permanently mechanically.
Steviekid
Yep. I was running TTC by bypassing the VSVs and relying on the pressure tank to keep the IACV/EGCV open and tried this to see if it was any different (to try to rule out the pressure tank). Steviekid
Well, investigated the wastegate today. Opened smoothly with about 15-18psi and shut when pressure released - ok. I disconnected the boost source pipe to the actuator, plugged it then drove the car (carefully), still 0.9 bar max Last possible thing left was the BOV, an apexi weld on job fitted to the car in Japan. Bodged a blanking plate from the end of a chin-up bar, took the car out and........................1.2 bar with no EBC input!!! :ecstatic: I'm so happy car hasn't run properly for longer than I can remember! Thank you to everyone that's had any input on this. Need to get a nice new HKS BOV and some polished top pipes now and get back in sequential at long last!!!!! pistonbroke
My god!!!, Kudos to you man, I've been browsing the forums for info as I'm a new owner and came across this thread. I was a mechanic for 5 years and the stuff you were talking about went straight over my head, how could you ever know all this stuff?? I pray to god I never have any greif with the turbos on mine, I wouldn't know where to start. Well done Steviekid, you've got some serious skills
Ian C
We all start somewhere mate I didn't know anything about engines until about 5 years ago. BTW the pressure tank can fail and the IACV and EGCV will still work, they just won't work when they should under some conditions - just thought I'd clear that up. -Ian
dangerous brain
I was a mechanic for 5 years and the stuff you were talking about went straight over my head, how could you ever know all this stuff?? I think maybe hundreds of people having hundreds of little problems and no-where else to find out the information from has forced certain determined individuals to go find out for themselves what is causing problems on their cars. These individuals have then been kind enough to share the wealth rather than keep it to themselves.
