Ian R
Rant Begins: My other half had her Beetle serviced today a Listers Volkswagon in Worcester. Now the service cost £240 which is alot but I can cope with that so she dropped the car off and I picked her up in the Supe. About a hour later whilst having a coffee in coffee Nero she gets a call from the service dept saying it needs a cambelt change as the car is 4 years old but it has only done 26k but Vw do advise it after 4 years. As she is selling the car she luckily said no. They quoted here wait for it £410 for the change no thats not a typo. Me bieng a tight b'stard I decided to make a few call so phoned another VW dealer and they quoted £210. So on collecting her car I went in with her and they confirmed the price. I then chip in and tell them that I have had a quote from another Vw dealer so why so high. He look on the computer and said they can't do it for that the part with tension kit is £250. Bullshit I think so I call for the service manager and ask WTF they are playing at he then says they may have made a mistake and quoted on the wrong car. I then put him straight and informed him the quote was generated of vin and registration so no mistake was made. Of he goes and came back and said Oh we made a mistake it was £41o including the service. I then said That is strange you parts person just told me the part costs £250 and now you can do it for £170 as the service is £240 he was then stumped for words. He finished with "I'm sorry Mr Rawlings we have made a mistake and I can't explain it." The other half is buying a convertible beetle in a month or so and I made it quite clear it would not be coming from them. I then asked for a fully itemised break down of the service and they then explained the car would be ready in 30 min. Which is funny as they had phoned to say the car was ready. (Bet they knew I was ginna check what was done on the service was done" All in all they are a bunch of robbing C**ts. Wonder how many unsuspecting people have been byripped of them Rant over .... China Man
hum, I used to own a BMW and they are equally bad if not worse. The look at the car as go this customer has money to burn, go get him and make sure our team hit our target...... Thats what I think

toyotasuprauk
Are main dealers getting worse? This is terrible especially seeing they probably went back to the car to finish a few bits off they would have charged you for. Good on you for bringing it up 99% of people would say nothing which is why they get away with it.
dangerous brain
Its outrageous it really is. I cannot beleive that massive companies still do this sort of thing. At that sort of price for an oil change and some lubrication and a lower than MOT level inspection of items for wear how can they justify actually cutting corners?? Lets face it they cut corners and realised they would be caught out so went back and did the stuff that was obvious. I bet you any money they didn't change the airfilter but had charged you for 1 and maybe even the oil and fuel filter. W*nkers !!!!! I think I personally would go back and kick up a huge fuss someday when they have people in that might be considering buying a new car. Mate of mine had a problem like this with a main agent rover dealer. He had a split boost connection pipe. These pr*cks changed his turbo billed him nearly a grand and sent him on his way. One problem my mate being an aircraft engineer looked at the turbo and thought balls theres nowt wrong with this. Had it tested and funny old thing there was nowt wrong with it. After a massive stand up row with the service manager it transpired that their new technician wasn't sure if it was the split pipe or the turbo and suspected that the turbo would be nadged because of the split pipe etc etc. He made them put his old turbo back on as there was nowt wrong with it and do the cambelt (he watched them do that lol) and do a full top service with new glow plugs etc rather than him go to trading standards. RedM
Had similar from Toyota. Is a full dealer service history really worth it?

supRo
Mate report them to Trading standards...it will count for something.
Digsy
That's main dealers for you...... Actually, I'd say its just how you get treated if they other party thinks they can get away with it. On a slightly different note I bought motor run capacitor today for my central heating boiler. If I'd have got it from an electronics shop where it was just another capacitor it would have cost me about £3, but because I got it from a central heating place its obvioudly a special item so I ended up paying £13 for it. You need eyes up your backside these days to avoid getting ripped off.

suprz_rz
Never ever go to a main dealers for a service. every time I did, I used to mark up parts that they should replace( oil filter, tippex seal on the brake fluid cap etc.. ) took my car in for a service to Bicknells ( vauxhall ) when I had an astra, and they didnt replace a single item. I checked the oil on the dipstick, and it was still dirty. Promptly went back in showed them the evidence, asked them to explain why? and got their YTS numpty the sack!! Plus two free services to shut me up.
Guest gzaerojon
i drive an astra turbo (petrol) for a company car. use to smoke on start up, so off to the vauxhall main dealer. got a call to say it was the turbo, so my boss agreed to a new one. got another call, they think its the head gasket, my boss said why a new turbo then? to which they replied it needed one anyway (yeah right) so my boss agreed. so after a set of plugs, air filter, oil filter, oil, head gasket, turbo (and a whole lot of bullsh!t from there service department) the bill got to over £2000 bloody joke if you asked me. got the car back, still smoked so back we go different mechanic this time, replaced the valve stem oil seals and perfect, no smoke. main dealers means nothing, robbing Barstards!! dangerous brain
I had a massive problem with a 6 month old astra I bought. It was a 1.6 injection (woo I know) but if you went up even the slightest incline on the motorway you'd have to drop it down to fourth from fifth cos it just wouldn't hold its speed, it was also only doing 20 mpg which just isn't right. I took it to 3 seperate vaux dealers and they diagnosed "no fault found" under warranty. Rather than argue with them I flogged it on to a garage with a PX. toyotasuprauk
I know Peugeot are rubbish cars anyway but my uncle bought a brand new 206 it’s developed loads of different faults, was deemed faulty after 6 months and he was given another brand new 206. So far in 18 months this 2nd car has been back to Peugeot 16 times! With the same loss of power cutting out problem that they can’t fix and he’s about to be given his third 206 as they don’t know how to fix it! When he gets the new car he’s changing straight to a jap car. I don’t see him that much but one example of the main dealers work, he’s a driving instructor so the car has dual controls. The first car was having some work done I don’t remember what and they forgot to reconnect the dual controls!
oxygene
Before I bought my Supe I had 4 Vauxhalls: 2xCrapstras (8v, 16v) 2xCalibras (16v, 24v) All of which were a chronic pain in the ass. I paid an average of £10k each for em, they all came from main dealers and all of them cost me similar amount of money to keep on the road for the time I had them. I know refer to Vauxhall as Poxall, their customer service is crap and their main dealers garages screwed me over for servicing.
