Cost of running a TT over an N/A

Hey everyone.

I have an na at the moment but would like a TT. Can someone tell me the extra running costs involved. I know they use roughly the same fuel if you don't drive the TT hard all the time, but what about things like servicing, and general wear and tear. I have never had a turbo car before so am a total novice to what owning one really involves.

Cheers everyone.

Well I don't know much about the NA, but as a TT owner having come from an old Honda CRX, servicing doesn't seem too bad as long as you go to a place who will do a good job, know what they're doing and charge a resonable price (eg. Phoenix). The main cost for me is definitely fuel - I generally do around 16-18mpg mainly around town with a mix of some medium distance driving. I don't boot it all the time either.

Regular oil changes will cost you a bit if you're doing a fair few miles. Otherwise discs, pads, etc are all resonable, especially with the prices from Steve Manley at Toyota. My last service at Phoenix was about £320 for all fluids, a change of plugs discs and pads (own parts).

Of course the real costs come when you start modding.... 620 quid for a SMIC, 300 for HIDs, 240 for new headlights, etc :)

Having owned both I can say there's not a major difference. The TT will use more fuel if driven hard (naturally) and insurance is about 100 quid more to me.

If you're lightish on the pedal though it's not a huge difference.

I used to change my oil very regularly on my NA anyway (similar to a TT), this may be the only other factor for you though.

The only other reason I've spent more is because of upgrades. :D

Concur. About the same. The things that most people thing will be different between NA and TT (insurance and fuel) are about the same.

As long as you keep your foot off the loud pedal a little bit, you should be OK! :)

Are service intervals the same on turbos as na cars? I was under the impression that the TT had more frequent services.

Reading this, I want a TT now!

It's all in the download area mate. Official Toyota Service schedules.
