Very interesting. I hadn't realised poor filtration could cause such serious problems. Chris, I'm sure you've noticed my car has a HKS mushroom filter which was on the car when I bought it. I do really like the sound it makes, but perhaps not at the expense of engine reliability. I might have to look at getting a standard airbox sometime.

James.

You could do with it, IMO. It's now a runner, BTW (will speak about the problem tomorrow, on the phone) and is at this stage:

Whilst building the exhaust toyota were worried about silly little things like ground clearence and longevity. These things the Likes of HKS/Blitz etc don't worry about. Oh then there are the other minor things like noise regs.

After changing nearly everything on my car, I can honestly say most OEM Toyota stuff rocks. When you run big power you obviously have to look else where, but for moderate levels TMC is hard to beat.

So if we leave the stock airbox in then because Toyota oviously put thought into the design.....then why do we all change exhausts? Surely they must of put lots of thought into this aswell? So why change this? Why change anything for that matter??? ;)

Toyota worry about little things like passing International emissions standards, noise levels, a very conservative boost level, longevity (yet to see a stock system rusted through...), and maximum ground clearance. *ankers, aren't they? :innocent:

That carbon box looks very tasty, beautiful lines, but judging by the the photos it is not sealed at the back so I assume it can still pull in air from under the bonnet. To get the induction system to suck in air from outside the car it surely must be sealed.

A 3L twin turbo engine gulps one hell of a lot of air at high boost, unless the air box is sealed the induction system will grab air from where ever it can, from the source with least resistance.
