window tinting

ADD

Recommended Posts

Nope, side window forward of the driver's seat has a limit of 30%, but factory windows come with a tint of (approx) 25% so you can't add more than 5% in tinting film or it takes it over the limit.

Front window can have NO tint AT ALL except the top part of the screen (8" I think they allow).

Anywhere behind the driver's seat can be black as black.

I used South Coast Tints in Southampton BTW, very good and only £3 taxi away from West Quay while you wait! :D They'd just done a 911 when I pulled up!!!

Lui, why does your suspension look so high in that pic?

not as bad in the flesh just dodgy camera angle dont want to go to low as i hate to do damage to front bumper in those speed humps which keeps appearing everywhere you go these days

Got it in one matey highly recommended if you ever need any spraying / bodywork to your car i give GVN 100% for looking after your Supra body needs mate:cool:

I know, I had my car fully re-sprayed by them in 2004, hence why I thought the surroundings looked familiar. As you say ,they are superb. Do you know Chris Webley (TRD3000GT) he's at GVN quite a lot?................it was thanks to Chris that my car went in with them:)

i thought that it was fine to tint front side windows long as i did not stop more than 22% of light coming through ????????????????????

30% iirc, which is fine for a nice light smoke but your windows will already be about 25-28% tinted. Slapping anything over the top will take you well over the limit, there bastards for it round this way. Alot of peeps do what you do and have a lighter smoke on the fronts as too the rear of the car making it look like the front is not tinted, more often than not people get away with it, just be warey :)

Yeah if u fancy a bit of a trip up 2 basingstoke, the guys at topgear do window tinting as well as other things. they will probably charge as much as £220 which isnt that bad as apparently they use the best high quality film available. thought about gettin my soop done there. I want 5% at the back and 25% at the front.

All 5 for £125, yes it is a bargain. I had my saxo done by him, and have sent 500+ other forum members to him too :)

Just a quick warning, anyone getting tints done with metalised film, be aware that it could, (read, probably will), interfere with any alarms fitted with external zone protection, (proximity sensors etc.).

5 windows for £125 really is a bargain. We can get them done at Maidstone, but as others have said, you'd be looking at nearer £220.

There are very few poor quality films around these days. The poor quality ones are usually the ones sold as DIY films.

The legal limit for tints on the front door glass is 70% light transparancy. However, there is a letter circulating from Hampshire police stating that they will only ask to remove/prosecute if the front glass falls below 50%.

Usually, you'll only get asked to remove the film from the offending glass, then produce the car at an MOT station. However, some police forces seem more strict than others.

Clear glass (at car window thickness) allows 86% light transmission, all manufacturers add tint of some kind for cooling and UV protection etc. which brings it down to between 70% and 80%, if you add ANY film you risk going below the limit. As Matt said it depends on the force that catches you - I think there is a clause in the Construction and Use regs amendments that says they will only give points if you have less than 30% light transmission!!! But I bet they can and some do give points for a lot higher than that!!
