Steve W
I'm almost positive (handbooks downstairs, and TOO cold to go out to car now ) ...that, YELLOW is Oil LEVEL... RED is Oil PRESSURE.. ie. YELLOW one will come on when LEVEL is just a bit too low (OR, if you corner fast, the oil may 'roll' away from the level ?) the RED is the VERY worrying one ! ! ! ! ! is yer level OK ? ? addi
yeh checked the oil level this morn and it is fine! hmmm....possibly a faulty sensor?
Steve W
s'possible ! ! ! as I said, under VERY heavy cornering, it might get a 'falsely' low reading 'cos of Oil 'sway' ? ? but then, mine never has ! (perhaps mine's broke and don't register at ALL ? ) Is yer RED (pressure) light showing before you start-up ? and, goes out ~fraction of second AFTER start-up ? THAT's the REAL sign................... FatS.
addi
yeh the red one is shown on start up! hmmmm
lpher
The yellow one is 'check your oil level' And the red one is the 'Stop-the-godda**-car-RIGHT-NOW!' light BTW....my last car (a 91 Celica GTi) had the same yellow/red system. And it was very handy on the 3S-GE engine...wich tend to use a bit of oil...when age first sets in But...ive actually come across this yellow light flicker on/off twice this last month in my Supra too...and the oil-levels are fine...a tad under FULL but...is this sensor of the nervous type or what? Not that long ago since i had my last oilchange either...using Castrol 0w40 i think.... Anyone? @lpher
Steve Cargill
Since the rebuild I sometimes get the red on one for a second or so after very heavy brakeing.
Steve W
Do yer revs drop slightly BELOW normal idle when you do the "Heavy-Brake" thing Steve ? ? ? ie. the Oil Pressure will MOMENTARALY drop below 'normal' and just flicker the RED... if so that's not too bad. IF it's flickering with revs at idle or above then EITHER Pressure is 'genuinely' low ( ) or the Oil Pressure SWITCH is a bit iffy (so the pressure is OK but the switch thinks it's a bit low ?) ? ? ? ? ? Steve Cargill
It never comes on during normal driving, been there, dead oil pump and bearings last year. Funnely enough, when it does come on (during heavy prolonged braking) I don't normally get chance to look at the rev counter. It'll try harder next time
Steve W
try to BRAKE harder ? or try to LOOK harder ?

Justin
My oil light came on a month ago so I topped her up. The light came on again today for 30 seconds and went off so I am worried now. I will check the colour of the light in a minute. If I am losing oil where is most likely to be leaking from? Checked the sump plug, check the filter for tightness. Where else should I check. Cheers J
