RedM
When I brake I can hear a kind of grindy noise from my rear brakes, like something being dragged. I've just had new pads and discs all around but, I have to confess, I had the noise before then. I was hoping the new pads etc would sort it. Also, when I reverse and brake I can hear a clunk but not when going forwards. Apparently, my handbrake pad things will need replacing within a year. Could they be anything to do with it. I'm assuming they only come into play when parking. Any ideas
supRo
It could be the handbrake shoes or springs have become loose or damaged. Whilst driving slowly, start lifting the handbrake up slowly and see if the noise differs. Best to whip off the rear discs and check the shoes/springs and if it is these you will also see scorching inside the disc bell
Pete
Might just be a piece of grit in there. Happened to me once, made once hell of a noise! Unlikely though if you've just had it all replaced.

RedM
Just got off the phone with Peter and he believes it's down to the handbrake shoe retainer pins being bent. At the last replacement they were probably not fitted correctly. Ordered a new kit. Not expensive in the least. See how it goes.
Chris Wilson
Someone's perhaps taken the old rear discs off without backing the shoe adjusters fully off, and damaged the handbrake shoe mechanism so the shoes are now rubbing?
RedM
That's what my mechanic guy thinks. Hurrah for great minds thinking alike. I saw you had replied and was like "oh no, mr. Wilson is going to say somthing totally different that will be horribly expensive" Phew!
