Kick down

The Supe drive fine under normal conditions but this morning for the 3rd time in the last 3 weeks when I have hit kickdown, to leave some wannabe standing, the following happens.

it drops a gear, the revs shoot up and i do not accellerate. If I take my foot off the power a bit it will go back into the previous gear and almost with a jolt you feel the power engage again.

This is no a common thing, and most of the time it is fine, everything engages and i am not seen for dust but other times i a left rolling along hammering the revs.

Any ideas... my first thought is clutch on the way out but there is no other obvious sings of slipping and it certainly does not do it all the time....

Just noticed as well, where did you get your carboin fibre dash kit from?

Was it on the car when you bought it?

Got any pics?

Sorry for all the questions but I have been trying to get hold of one for ages and as far as I know they were only made for left hookers.

There is obviously hope yet.:)

Steve

They WERE made up to approx 4 years ago and now no one produces them (well no one in Japan after 3 months search!)

Your only hope is one already installed:(

The auto doesn't have a clutch mate, its a torque converter, perhaps this is on the way out?

Thanks for the help so far..

Re the Carbon Fiber Dash.... I got it about 2 months ago and installed it myself.. It cost £250 inc VAT.

I am pretty happy with it although there are a few points where it does not fit 100%. I will try and dig out the photos I took at installation but they are about 4mb each so need to shrink them a bit.

The advantage of this dash over others that I have seen is that it covers the dash, the relevant bits of the center console and the sloped bits of the door handle. so it looks more complete than just an after market jobby.

The main winge that I would say is that they said no glueing required but I have found that I had to remove several sections and glue it myself as it started to lift off in hot weather.

It does actually , quite a few , but this doesnt sound like a clutch problem , in fact it doesnt sound like a gearbox prob. full stop , if the box is kicking down its doing its job just sounds like the power is not forthcoming , very hard to diagnose this without experiencing the symptoms , any fault codes show up .

Fluid check ( hot box, level ground , tickover, shift stick though all gear and park combinations a couple of times, tickover wait one minute) then check.

What does the fluid smell like?

Burnt toast??????

Some of the earlier boxes had little ( Blue?) balls in the solenoids that could stick. This I think was put down to them being more susceptible dirty fluid. This could result in box problems not sure if it caused this though?:(

Auto boxes work off pressure via the pump and torque converter the clutches and bands run in fluid and transfer the pressure , there are a couple of other bits in there too , when the fluid smells burnt its because the cluthches are all burnt up and breaking down .
