Digsy
Sorry - you hit a nerve there Mike Sorry dude, no offense intended. How were you involved? Its this bloody definiton of "design". For me, it boils down to does it all work in the final analysis. Concorde: Brilliant Engineering, absolutely no doubt. Beautiful styling. There's nothing so sexy as something which has to look that good just through its function. BUT... lousy business case, and that's what has killed pretty much all the other attempts at a commercial supersonic jet liner too, with the possible execption of the Tu-144 which just seemed doomed from the start. What's the Japanese one all about? Not heard of that.
Steve W
the Spitfire....... Concorde......... but NOT the Harrier Jump Jet ?!?!?!?!?!?!?!? EVEN the YANKS had to give in and 'borrow' it permanently ! ! ! The russians copied it, and NOW the Yanks have finally superseded it, but it's taken a year....or TWO ! ! ! Lazarus
..... with the possible execption of the Tu-144 which just seemed doomed from the start. What's the Japanese one all about? Not heard of that. WARNING...WARNING...Thread tangent ahead!.... Did anybody know that one of the Tu-144's has been re-engined with General Electric motors, for research purposes, sponsored by Lockheed I believe, looks the Americans are into Supersonic transport again. What's the Japanese one all about? Not heard of that. I'd love to say I was involved, but unfortunately I wasn't. My only real connection with Concorde was that I was born as the first commercial flight was taking off in 1976. I've always been fascinated by Concorde though, and it's probably the main reason why I ended up in the career I did. I'm just bitter because I never got to fly on her. Japan test flew a scale prototype at Woomera range in Australia late last year Article here Mike
Tom S
Errr! Not quite correct Bobbeh..well known fact the Russians copied us, they even had spies in the factory at Filton. The only piece of info they didn't get was the correct profile of the leading edge of the wing, which is why the Tupolev (Concordski) had canards fitted just behind the cockpit. Lazarus !! andrew7
I think its got to be the internet, beacause it saves 50% of the population from having to sneak in and out of the sex shop.................... Seriously I would go for ABS (plastics). Do the job magnificently and think where we'd be without them.......
