KaoriFan
does anyone know of any free hosts for phpBB with few ads, or paid if not too expensive. or if anyone knows the tech differences between phpBB and the vBulletin we use here, that would help, as another option may be to change. the current host for the music forum i where i am a moderator, is closing down, possibly in April appreciate any info, cheers Ian (green smiley guy especially for Rob, lol)
Pete
phpBB is free....but sometimes paying for things means they're more stable and better supported.
KaoriFan
thanks Pete for the speedy reply, yeah, i agree its better to pay for a service, always more stable in the long run. the advert options which seem to be free hosting, i dont really like. someone did find a pay option, but that was a one off $25 just to migrate the setup to their hosting. but from how it looks they dont seem reliable. looks like their boards got wiped once or twice. i think the PC would fry if i went for local temp hosting as i am on 24/7 and already blew one mobo year and half ago. not to up on PHP or MySQL, but maybe oneday. i would love to find a free hosting/ or cheapish option for the IRC BotNet i run, its 20UK a month for 12 bots split onto 4 diff servers for redundancy incase one or more host goes down. Pete
Worse thing on a BB is bandwidth. You get a few users running on it and your charges will go through the roof. If you can find one that's unmetered then you'll pay more for the hosting, but will probably be capped max throughput meaning slow down during busy periods. It amazes me how fast this board runs sometimes under heavy load.
