China Man
I got the seats and now waiting for the base to have it install. i am thinking of installing a 3 points harness but not sure where the top point attached to?? I have seen some install like Peter Sharp's car with a harness bar, is that the only option?? I like the look of the harness bar and I can mount my DV cam there for track days but I find it really stupid to have bought the recline seat and runner but can't have access or use of the back seats Can the normal seat belt top mount be used? I read somewhere on the forum that it can cause stress and spinal injury. Many thanks China
Lewis
hang baby rattles off it then have a small toddler rented for the back seat for special occaisons
Need4Speed
Can the normal seat belt top mount be used? No! I'll try and get a photo or two of how I mounted my four point so it's only available with the back seat folded down. I don't carry back seat passengers on track:D
terribleturner
Ben, i've seen the top part attached to a strut brace in the back, Also to the top mounting point of the rear seat belts and also with an extension bit clipped into the rear seatbelt clips. Soonto_HAS_soop
You can buy the harness bar, or you could attach it to a rear strut brace, but you lose the rear seats completely. I think that there are strict angles and lengths for the fixing of any racing harnesses. Not sure where you would find the information, try googling it. Need4Speed
This is my 4 point. It's all bolted to the chassis using threaded anchor plates. The shoulder straps go over the bar in the bas of the rear seat back and then attach to the floor just behind it. It all folds into the boot when not needed. strict angles and lengths for the fixing of any racing harnessesOnly applicable if you are racing under MSA regs. It's worth complying with race regs if you can, but common sense and some thought are all you really need if you're doing track days. SimonB
I think anyone is crazy to use harnesses without mounting them properly. If the angle of the shoulder belts is more than a bit below horizontal it can compress your spine and do serious damage in an accident. If the belts are too long they will stretch in an impact. Without an anti-sub belt the waist belt can pull up in a crash, potentially into the soft tissue above your waist, which is going to be very serious. Normal belts don't do this because as the shoulder belt tightens it pulls the lap belt towards you. So you must have all the belts absolutely tight. If you don't mount them properly they are much more dangerous than normal seatbelts. Strut braces are no where near strong enough, the rear belt points are too low. Use a harness bar and a proper 5 or 6 point harness is my advice.
Need4Speed
You can't use more than 4 point with a standard seat.
attilauk
I have seen some install like Peter Sharp's car with a harness bar, is that the only option?? if you dont want the seat to bend and break your back in an impact yes. the bar is designed to take the force off the top of the seat and stop this from happening. Need4Speed
Provided the anchor points are mounted to something that won't break in an accident, it doesn't matter what they're fixed to. Personally I thing the chassis of the car is strong enough. The issue of strap angles is defined in the RAC Blue Book. Has anyone got one and can upload the relevant diagram? Soonto_HAS_soop
I've always worked on the fact that parallel to the exit from the back of the seat is best, and that anything over 45 degrees from this is bad and should not be used. SimonB
You can't use more than 4 point with a standard seat. Yeah but the standard seats have no shoulder harness slots anyway, so you shouldn't be using harnesses at all with them. I had my standard Recaros modified & retrimmed so they have slots in the base for the anti-sub straps.
Need4Speed
Yeah but the standard seats have no shoulder harness slots anywayIt rather depends on the size of the driver as to the fit of the harness. At my height the gap between the seat top and the headrest just happens to be spot on.

Need4Speed
I think I looked at that issue when installed it and found a problem, but I can't remember what it was.
