What are Japanese roads like?

The roads are far better in Japan from what I've experienced (4 years there). Even in Okinawa where a type of coral is used in the manufacturing process causing them to be very slick in the wet. They build and repair their roads ten times faster and better than anywhere else I've been in the world. Like ants they are.

The japanese roads are leaps and bounds better than here.

The highways (Wangan) are maintained like the German Autobahn, they are perfect.

Some of the side roads aren't as perfect but are very good. Very few potholes. People in Japan care about things like that - if it was outside someones house they'd fix them!

Should have thought about that. The Japanese seem to be obsessed with the apearence of things.

Take Kendo (a sport i do) for example. You can get a good hit on your opponent but ultimately if it doesn't look right you don't score!

I wonder what would have to be done to instill the same level of pride in our nation as they have in theirs.

As my gf is Japanese, I travel to Tokyo once a year to see her family. It always amazes me how polite, good humoured and intelligent Japanese people are. They are workaholics and strive to be the very best at whatever they do. There is practically no crime, no violence. The streets of Tokyo are safe to walk at 4am.

Oh and most have no relgion. food for thought...

Cheers for that. I'm going to have to go sometime soon. I've been a Japanophile (if I haven't just made that word up) since I was a kid.

I'd like to go for a month. Really get to see the country. I'd also like to do Kendo in Japan too. Training twice a day every day would be really good.

One day....

I did a year of evening classes and, well, I'll be fine if all I need is to visit a department store or to thank my Sensei for the opportunity of being soundly beaten with a walloping Men cut.

I'm going to enrol in some classes again, I think. My better half bought me some learn Japanese cds for xmas too. Maybe she's hoping I'll bugger off.
