RedM
On the topic of genocide, there's a post on here about a Gas Company advert next to an article about Auchswitz!! What shall we do about that then??!! No-one was making light of it though.

Green Peace
Its very hard to understand why its offensive...isn't it???????? Unless of course your the person who is part of the culture who the jokes are aimed at. Like if you have been beaten up by people with baseball bats and called a dirty nigger, a dirty faggot, or a dirty paki.... I have never been called any of the above so i cant imagine what its like and how personal it feels..but I know people that have!!!! Out of great Respect for Martin Luther King...it gets the 'NO' vote from me in a very stern 'Simon Cowl' Voice. Come on people...keep ya Red Neck Jokes...in Nether Wallop....This site used to be full of bright people...maybe I sold mine at the right time! Rascism is NOT funny...and stop crying 'PC' its fcuk all to do with that...more to do with human decency and respect for fellow club members from 'ALL' walks of life....your in the big wide world so grow up!!!! jamesmark
Rascism is NOT funny...and stop crying 'PC' its fcuk all to do with that...more to do with human decency and respect for fellow club members from 'ALL' walks of life....your in the big wide world so grow up!!!! no disrespect meant on what i am about to say but to ask people to grow up is a bit of a puerile comment, as racism will never go away as we have narrow minded people out there, also people that make fun of disabled, gays and so on, its not a case of growing up that will never happen. everone has had a form of getting called names so everyone knows what it is like, getting called a paki, a fat bastard, ugly even things in jest all has an effect, what makes someone getting called a paki any worse that a 30 stone man getting called a fat bastard it doesnt!!!!!!!!!! both the asian and the fat person have feelings except one is protected by a law and the other has to really suffer, but people dont think like that, people who suffer at the hands of racism have something to fall back on if they choose to take the route of the law but what does the fat man have? nothing apart from how he deals with it inside. no one is different we are all the same at the end of the day. i am sick of having to watch what i say in public for fear of possible prosecution, or if i offend someone its not right we are all humans never the less and should be treated as such. no one can grow up its impossible

RedM
I would guess that a fat person could also lose weight and avoid the jibes. Bit difficult to change the colour of your skin, I guess. As for racsim never going away. It won't unless we all make a conscious effort not to perpetuate it and to challenge and confront racists/racism whenever we encounter it. The wrong word at the wrong time will get you in trouble with the law or worse, gang beaten! China Nicely Put....the laws are there to protect people getting themselves in that situation as well as to protect the people who victims of racism... Despite the laws...racism and other forms of prejudice..lie beneath the skin in some people...and yes it can work all ways...there is an awful lot of rasicm against white people too in some countries, I have experienced it myself.. I have a mate of mine I used to goto school with, when he left he'd go for interview after interview (this was in the eighties) he is a very bright lad, but he just knew the main reason he didn't get the job in those days was because of his skin colour....lets not celebrate those days...the world has thankfully moved on from then. I get annoyed if the bloke in my local garage dosn't speak English, the people on the Costa Del Sol get pissed off with the Brits living there and not speaking Spanish...I honestly dont give a flying fcuk where he comes from, he could come from Timbucktoo fotr all I care (actually I think thats where he IS from funny enough lol) I know im fanning the flames, I apologise, but often these things are better out than in....and i like to take part in these kinds of debates..we all learn from each other...if only we all talked about this kind of thing more! KaoriFan
first, i have to say i agree with Class One and his posting. second, i think the vote is wrong, as 'non PC' is much different to racism or other things that can offend. the title is too ambiguious, and if going down the racist joke line, then that should be the vote. we can all know racist jokes and other non-PC offerings. I know many jokes i am sure will offend others. but i wont use them here as there is a time and a place. Some i will use as they are not too bad, and can be in an open forum. some things are best left for face-to-face, though. the other month someone posted a animated gif, of a 'suicide bomber training school'. personally i thought that was funny, even though not PC at current times. but if you think about it in more detail, would someone find it so funny if it was set in Northern Ireland and a terrorist training camp. just think if you had friends killed at Omagh etc. now onto the posting the image of Phan Thi Kim Phuc. that isn't funny imho, some 9yo getting blasted by a US jet carrying napalm bombs in Vietnam. i really dont see the connection with Gary Glitter, other than it being a girl and in Vietnam. sorry, Gamer, no offence meant to you. just my views on the photo and the horrors of war. I have known about this for years, but check this link out, it shows how someone can make a difference to others: http://www.vietnamwar.com/phanthikimphuc.htm Saying that, in the UK we have teenagers setting tramps on fire on park benches. not sure how we would feel if one of our mates got set alight, would we laugh at that. I dont care about Gary Glitter, i can make jokes about him fine. what i do have a problem with is other cultures trying to impose their 'views' onto the country they are living in. If i went to Spain i would make effort to learn customs and language, rather than the common Brit attitude of thinking English is the only way. we are the United Kingdom, so in that sense should all be united together. Democracy is great, so long as it is the same for everyone. just a small point, but how many here have had a Supra keyed or otherwise damaged, by someone who may be jealous of having a nice car. was it all taken in 'good fun' and laughed about. or would you be pissed and want to kill the person who did that. oh, and btw, i am a white 39yo so maybe its an age thing. i have many Caucasian and Asian Friends (i.e. Chinese, Japanese, Pinoy, etc). some of my asian friends can easily make fun of themselves and their culture. if only people took the time to learn about other's cultures and understand them, the world would be a much better place. rather than getting these idiots in power, that make laws or preach hatred. i am all for free-speech, but there are limits to what i would say publicly as opposed to private or to a group of friends in RL situation. don't forget with Free-Speech also comes responsiblity for actions. I would round up all the protesters that were in London the other week, saying for people to be beheaded and murdered. then send them to an island shoot the lot of them. There is a whole difference to saying a few things and incitement. these are just my views, sorry if it annoys anyone, if we met at a club meet, etc, i would not have a problem as we are all adults and would understand/know each others humour. and those that would be offended would not need to listen. I have laughed at many of the jokes that are near to the point, on the forum. but not seen one that was OTT, so far. anyways, going for Breakfast now, lets all talk Supras, have a laugh and just chill. Life is too short to worry about many things. Edited to add - as to posting non PC things, does that mean jokes about 'dustment' are out, if we dont use the correct PC job description title so i cant vote as the subject is too ambigious. Bill Prawn
Be careful with some 'jokes' though. As I once found out with one about David Beckham. I was threatened and told I'd be knocked out:( If you want to see it. It's here but I've put this up for research purposes, so no more threats;) There is a thin line between what is funny and what is offensive. The Vietnamese girl running away from a Napalm strike is not funny, but a Vietnamese girl running away crying because she's heard Gary Glitter is in town is. There are many people out there who don't know who Phan Thi Kim Phuc is or for that matter that there was a war in Vietnam. We have always had a facility in this country to laugh in the most horrific of conditions. There are some very funny stories and monologues from the First World War and other terrible events such as: train wrecks, plane crashes, etc. I think if someone wants to put up a joke about a black guy then ok do it, but some people will find it offensive just as some will find it unfunny. That's it for now, off for coffee.
Paul
Although I think we should be able to post any jokes about anything you've got to realise that not all people are as open minded these days after years or pre-conditioning telling them is isn't acceptable. Also some things look horrific when seen in type, different to being said in person where facial expressions show how the person telling intends it to be funny. I think it'll give us all a load of problems as the sensative sort will jump on it every time and give us their opinion as to why it shouldn't be posted rather than move on. Scoboblio
*inserts 2 pence* Personally I think that this is one thing that common sense has to dictate. As it's already been said there's a big difference between a light hearted jibe and a joke born purely out of racism. We can all tell the difference between the two. I have a good laugh at jokes about the Irish, Scottish etc as well as jokes about Essex girls / boys - it's no big deal. I say post away - but only if you're confident that what you're posting doesn't cross the line of decency! Yes it's a hard thing to judge, but if you're deeply offended by someone's comments then report it to a moderator, who will take the necessary action.
