Got a couple of cracking jokes for you but unfortunately they are somewhat racist. By "somewhat" i blatantly mean "highly". Now im not a racist person in any way shape or form but these jokes really made me laugh and i understand that a public forum might not be the place to tell them, therefore ive started this poll. As it says on the tin, if you think its ok to post the jokes, select Yes, if not No.

I love jokes and humour but as you've said "they are somewhat racist. By "somewhat" i blatantly mean "highly".

Having been racially abused a number of times, spat on when I was 14 by three grown men and called racist names, I might possibly get a little offended depending on the nature of the joke! I haven't joined this forum to see racist material!

Just my opinion.

This is what i mean i dont want to cause anyone on here any offence, especially seeing as its such a close community and i dont want to be labelled as a racist. I dont think im gonna post them, sorry guys but its not worth risking offending anyone.

Its not a bullshit get out cos you can laugh a racist joke and not be a racist.

Does the joke still work if you substitute the race element for, I dunno, BMW drivers? If it does and the joke continues to be told in it's racist context then it's obvoiusly intended to be racist.

Heres a thing from Viz

Racists -

make people believe you are not a racist by starting every sentence with 'I'm not racist, but...'

FWIW I have a whole non-white stepfamily. Please feel free to make sure my little brother and sister continue to grow up hearing racist jokes. I'm sure it'll help them to know their place.

But that is making the huge assumption that all things associated with being non PC are racist. Obviously that is not the case.

I totally agree with you. There is a pretty good book by Lawrence Blum called "I'm not a racist but..." that deals with that whole set of issues. Do we have a forum reading list?

At the end of the day a joke is just that, a joke. As with those who moan about swearing etc on TV you have a choice - turn it off. If you don't like what you read, don't continue to read it. What we need to do is all lighten up and smile at life a lot more, there's so much shit in this world already that if we lose the ability to laugh at ourselves (and by that I mean ALL of us) we might as well all pack up and fuck off. We've all been on the end of bullying in some form or another (whether this be racial or not) and its pitiful that this continues but stopping people laughing, joking and generally pointing a finger at our own foibles really isn't the way to tackle it.

I guess it opens a can of worms in terms of what is acceptable!

Say it was a joke regarding something tongue in cheek about an ethnic groups culture - most people I think will be ok including myself.

But as you've said "highly racist" I'm thinking they are very derogatory and it could possibly cause "tit for tat" by offended members and just cause a rift or blow out of proportion!

Now I'm not PC far from it. I speak my mind usually, but there's a time and a place for jokes that are racisist or sexist or such like.

We have to remember that the forum has a lot of members from minority ethnic groups, we have ladies, and there are some members who may find some jokes offensive.

By posting outright racist jokes, might not be appropriate, and will also place an obligation on the mods, who have a duty to ensure that posts won't offend some of our members, NOT because they are over sensitive but because they make them feel uncomfortable because of their background or sexual persuasion or ethnicity.

I have some cracking jokes. But I wouldn't post them on the forum, not because i'm PC but because they might offend some members by their very nature.

A Line has to be drawn somewhere. Most of the jokes posted are very funny and some close to the bone, but as a club, do we want to step over the line?

Many many people have said we're one of the most open and friendly forums out there. So keep it as it is and don't step over the line.
