Chris Wilson
Motor factors that specialise in diesel trucks will have it (cold start injector tanks use them) In quantity, say a minimum of 25 litres, try Yellow Pages, chemical suppliers. Or drag race specialist magazines, or the easiset way is to but screen wash additive based on methanol (Car Plan) and use that.

JohnA
I wouldn't use screen wash with the Aquamist pump and nozzles. It also contains soaps and other unwanted ingredients. Stick to pure methanol mixed with distilled water (flush the tank before as well) Don't go over 50/50 either, if in doubt err on the water side. Too high meth or high ethanol concentration will swell and kill the pump seals. (can you tell I'm an old-timer at the W.I. forum? lol...) You can buy pure methanol from a RC Model shop if there is one near you. Do NOT say it is for automotive use.

Or drag race specialist magazines, or the easiset way is to but screen wash additive based on methanol (Car Plan) and use that. Ethylene Glycol is what they use in screen wash. Its cheaper than alcohol based solvents. Methanol is more expensive due to the way it is made (oxidation of methane). So please dont use it! arnout
We sell it for £5 per L min 5 L. Martin Wow. We sell 2,50 euro the liter.
JohnA
Last time I paid £8/gal, which is less than £2/litre. If you go to an RC shop (as I do) make it clear that you do NOT want primixed oil or anything, just pure methanol. (for your RC)

CJ
Remote Controlled As in RC Car? I thought so but didnt want to appear even more stupid than I normally do. What is Methanol used for in the RC Cars? Is that the fuel?
veilsideTT
I have an RC helicopter that uses it.
JohnA
Anyone care to explain why you put methanol through your aquamist setups? It performs various functions, depending on the setup Here are some attributes that could be of use: * octane increase * antifreeze * lowers surface tension of water * kills micro-organisms * evaporates fast Have a look at my site for more, not perfect yet but I doubt that you can find elsewhere a more condensed resource list
Jake
Is that the sticky orange stuff I've seen used in RC cars?
JohnA
Pure methanol is transparent.
Jake
Do you mean colourless? The sticky orange stuff I'm on about was also transparent.
JohnA
Like water, colourless and transparent. Smells different though (lol) and spills much easier (lower surface tension!) Not a nice substance, best work outdoors.
