HunterJ
Okay, I've been using the search button and I am getting more and more confused with all the options! And to be fair I'd only be able to home in on the appropriate threads if I knew what I was looking for... Basically, I'm trying to buy some new wheels, currently I have 18" Super Advan 2 with 235/40ZR18 rubber on the front and 265/35ZR18 on the rear. My questions are: What are the size and offsets of these wheels...(if that is possible to determine)? What does the offset represent? I've heard spacers being mentioned, what are these and how do they effect what ever they do? Sorry if this seems obvious/trivial (or both)... Cheers Jamie
ChrisSZ
Offset refers to the distance that the mounting face sits in relation to the centre line of the wheel. So an 8" wheel has a centre line at 4". 0mm offset will put the mounting face directly in line with this. An offset of 50mm will put the mounting face 50mm outside (towards the outer edge of the wheel) of the centre line - so the wheel would tuck under the arches more. A 30mm offset rim would stick out 20mm more than a 50mm offset would - make sense?? Spacers are discs of ally of varying thickness used to 'alter' the offset of a wheel. So a 50mm offset wheel with a 5mm spacer = 45mm offset (the wheel sticks out 5mm further than normal) The wheels you already have should have the offset stamped on them somewhere - try the backs of the spokes.
