terribleturner
OK, so i'm off to pod for my first outing of the year and am hoping to hit the 12's after making 13.097 last time out. Now the question is, do i strip the car a bit i.e. Loose the spare wheel, bassbox etc.... or just go for it in full tesco's trim??
Sharpie
Tesco's trim all the way What time of year did you get the 13.097 ? You think the grip levels are as good right now......? In anycase, best of luck J
IanK
strip it! i noticed the difference when i stripped mine before bovingdon. go on, get another BPU into the 12's where they belong
Homer
Thats a great time mate, but go on and strip it It might not make too much difference though as most of the weight you strip will be over the back wheels (Where we all need it!). The back seats weigh a fair amount, as does the drivers seat - maybe get a cheap lightweight one for the drag events? Removing the interior and replacing the driver seat could save as much as 100kg
terribleturner
What time of year did you get the 13.097 ? You think the grip levels are as good right now......? Think it was November last year. The run i got that on was with the sun out on a warmish day, but the run after when it got dark i just spun nearly the entire track I'd like to hit 12's (mid would be nice) before i go single, just to see if the car has it in her. My problem is i like to listen to music when doing the run, so taking the bassbox out means i may not be 100% concentrating without the music. Decisions decisions

terribleturner
I guess i could try my MP3 player, so how that works. I guess this time i'll go full trim and see how it goes and then maybe the next time remove all and everything and see if it's a difference. JohnA
If you strip bits, then you'll never know what it does in normal shape. It's like running on slicks and race fuel and the like. It's not a representative road car anymore, and it isn't a racer either. Lose-lose situation.
Syed Shah
Run it in whatever state you run it on the road. If its your weekend toy and is stripped for performance road use, then run stripped. If its a daily driver usually full of everything, run it like that. Race fuel I feel is representative of a road car if that is how you run it on the road. When you spent 30k+ on a proper job, whats a bit more on fuel?
letmeshowyou
James - tesco it. mine is always slower with the spare wheel removed!! I'd consider having the radio off too - no matter how small a difference the more things you have on, the harder the alternator is working and the more power its taking from the engine (and while I'm being pedantic consider the drag the aeriel makes too!!) Homer
and while I'm being pedantic consider the drag the aeriel makes too!! If drag is a concern I think James needs to rethink the surfboard attached to the rear
letmeshowyou
fair point. James - ignore my concerns about weight over the rear wheels. Strip it! (and turn the radio off!!)
JohnA
I regard as a fast road car one that can do decent times on pump fuel sitting you in the middle of the summer in leather seats and aircon full-blast. Otherwise it's not a road car, it's in the same category as a noisy fibreglass racer with perspex windows. (translation: don't strip --- but optimise what you've got)
hadyn
Removing the spare wheel is standard procedure.
JohnA
What do you prefer? 1. A low 12 with a mountain of bits piled next to a friend's car (or back in your garage), race fuel and non-road legal tyres and sweating in the heat, deafened by the noise of a fully stripped car 2. a high 12 with a passenger, full music blasting, aircon maxxed out, all standard fuel, tyres etc I'd always go for #2 It's not that #1 will turn it into a rocket, it won't do 8s, will it? So let's have the grace of a 1.6 ton tourer combined with the pace of a sports car. If I see a supra with no rear seats, buckets upfront, guy with a canister and funnel etc, I'd expect 9s mate. Otherwise why bother?

The drag wont make much of a difference on the strip anyways, plus i have no extrenal arieal:p I think im just gonna run it as she is. Maybe bounce up and down to relive a bit of weight from time to time Look out 12's here i come

Stevie Boy
In the interest of keeping a little weight over the rear wheels on my last visit to the Pod Jap Show end of last year i left all the gear in the car, but took front Passenger seat out (that way i told my girlfriend she couldn't come with!) But did drop tyre pressures and run a lightish fuel tank, bout 1/3tank (other mates who went ran a lot less but i hate stressing bout making it to the nearest juice stop on the way home) with all the extra room i had in the car next to me i had room to put the O/S head light for last 2 runs, oh and to put the OE rear wing/spoiler for last run all of which didn't hardly any difference as my main issue of the day was traction couldn't get any! remember the backend proper stepped out on me in 2nd gear when 2nd turbo came in on my way up the strip..... almost soiled myself.
