Help with cam-belt

Recommended Posts

hi

i have a j-spec tt and i need the cambelt replacing and dont know the best place to go. ive been quoted from £125 (dont think they knew wot they were on about) and £550 (a bit too pricey). at the mo my best bet is toyota but they have quoted me £300 with tensioners, which i was happy with untill they said, "as its an import its not as straight forward and we will need it for more than 4.5hrs as previously required", now they want it for 2 days. Is there any difference between uk and j-spec regarding the cam belt or are they havin a laugh???

comments please....

cheers

james

Yeah completley different yours will have been tightened up by a 'black mask ninja' and therfore will be much more difficult to change. These guys make me sick , there is no diff. they just want to rip you off , ask them exactly what difference it will be and for the corresponding UK/JAP part numbers , strange thing is they are the same

Dude:flame Dev

Im gonna charge more for UK resprays from now on :innocent:

the only one that might be different (?) is the VVTi ? ? ?

the extra 'knobbly' bit is by the Inlet Cam Sprocket ?

not sure if that might add ~1/2hr on or sumtin' ? ?

otherwise Dude's dead right SAME EVERYTHING JAPUK ! !

(well, bloody hope so.... mine's got UK belt/UK tens/UK w-pump/

UK alt-belt...etc etc and it's a JAP SPEC ! ! :) )

the Service Manual tells you how 'test'/check the tensioner...

you have to take it OFF and at least press it back in and put the

'holding' pin back in...

(needs a fair vice really)

then, when it's all back on, you pull the pin and it re-tensions the

belt.

I just put a new one on 'cos I'm a scaredy-cat (it was only about

another £25/30 ?)

only changed the W-Pump for the same reason.....

Pump NEW... Tens' NEW... Belt NEW.... no need to go 'in there'

for a long time ? ! :conf: :music:

Sorry Dude... I forgot to mention , I changed THAT too (just in case)

you check it by just 'spinning' it and feeling for 'roughness' of the

bearing ? ! ? - yeah RIGHT...

if you're changin' the BELT and the TENSIONER and paying the

LABOUR, then a £20 idler is a SILLY 'saving' ! !

(it WAS in me first piccy - just forgot it on me list... DOH !:( )

Help Help Help

I've been to my local Toyota garage for some prices on cambelt associated parts and this is what i'm faced with, can anyone help or offer alternative place to buy from?

Tensioner: £34.62 +vat

Idler Wheel: £52.59 +vat

Damper: £32.84 +vat

Steve the prices you we're talking about seemed a lot less than this, any ideas?
