Ahh, the heating was in the flat we rent... but yes fitted new boiler last Saturday, it's HOT in there now!!!

New kitchen doors don't arrive until Tuesday 28th but I will post some pics then :)

Last time I try and match old units with new... it would appear that the hinges on MFI units are in a different place to B&Q so we will have to move those on all the old units... bearing in mind thats only 1 half of the kitchen you can see there and all the other units are old :rlol:

Cheers and Good luck :D

The only bits I 'sub conned' were the worktop mitres and the gas hob connection.

Plumber turned up a day late and the chippy slipped with the router and nearly shagged up one £400 piece of worktop, that's why I do everything else myself cause it's slower but less stressfull:)

I'll do some of it myself the pro's always seem to be in such a rush. But I wont be doing it all, far from it. I espically wont be cutting the worktop!

Wise move, if they shag the worktop up then it's down to them. IMO it's not worth taking a chance yourself for what they charge and joining strips look shite and collect crap.

The worst part is waiting for delivered damaged panels and doors to be replaced, easy to arrange but with the thin packing it took them four attempts with one door:blink:

I had a mate check and test all my electrics after and he signed it all off, totally legal to do them yourself as long as they are tested after.

Plumbing is a doddle, I prefer traditional soldering but with it all being hidden behind a unit the push fit are quick and foolproof.

thought they;'d changed that now? you can do stuff in bedrooms etc but "high risk" areas (kitchens/bathrooms) you can't even change a socket?? It's all a bit confusing so I could be wrong.

Anyway, worktops went in last night... so pretty much there apart from the doors (and finishing painting.)

sounds odd because we've added SO many units in but it actually looks bigger.

Yeah, the 'ovens' (Bosch) are a single oven below and the bollox combination microwave above. You programme it to the type of food and weight and it does the rest, uses microwave/grill/halogen all together to cook. Bit over the top for warming my pizzas up though:D

I think you are right regarding 'part P' (new regs) in that you can't just do diy electrics as before and bathrooms and kitchens are targeted as being high risk areas.

My mate says that it's fine to do the work yourself on anything but in theory you can't use that circuit after it's done until it's been checked and signed off by a qualified electrician and you need the paperwork for it.

I'm happy with that as I'm confident myself but respect him as being qualified in his field and it's still satisfying when he comes round and pats me on the back and gives it the all clear:)

They changed the colour of the wiring, I guess to prevent people from doing this as the evidence of the new colours would point to the rought time it was fitted. As far as I know though, the new colours were available at least 6 mths prior to part P being implemented ?:) So the colours mean sod all.

When/if the home buyers pack comes into force then you'll need the electrics to be certified anyway and any dodgy jobs will need correcting then so if you're doing DIY on the quite then make sure you use the correct bits and do a proper job so it sails through any inspection later.

this is the problem, besides, we have a fair amount of the older style cable left... no way we're chucking that!!

buyers guide I suppose is good as long as you're moving house too not just selling. problem is I would want to buy a wreck and do it up anyway so i wouldn't be gaining anything, damn them.
