Paul
Wasn't trying to be funny, just that going over crappy finishes it's better to use it. Looks a good job though.

How did you get your plaster to dry so quickly? We had a room done recently and it took about a week to dry! ps when you said you can fit kitchens do you mean plumbing aswell? We've got one that needs doing but having to move the sink etc.... ;-)
Supragal
Sounds odd to me... I thought plaster should take no more than 4 hours to go off? Depends how thick it was on the wall and what you mean by "gone off" if you mean completely bone dry then a week could be right, but it's paintable after 4 hours. Cold damp room would means it takes longer? Kitchens and water- yes but it depends by how much? If you mean over the other side of the room then it's a nightmare to move the main water feed etc IIRC. You'd have to run the plumbing round the room rather than moving that.

You'd have to run the plumbing round the room rather than moving that. It is a very large room and some of the walls are external (if that makes a difference). What do you mean by 'gone off' don't know these builders terms i'm almost a DIY dunce! I thought it had to be bone dry to be paintable? And also that you have to pva it after its dry? Like i say, i have no clue when it comes to this stuff.
Supragal
I'm sure there are proper ways of doing thigns like leaving it for a week before painting but in my own house I don't mind cutting corners like that and not had a problem yet (tempting fate...) you can underseal etc but I find a coat of paint does the same, as long as oyu realise it will be a basecoat not a topcoat! dangerous brain
Used to be years ago that the rule of thumb was 6 months before you should paint a freshly plastered wall. My old man who is a plasterer still doesn't like painting walls with them still "fresh" Moving plumbings easy enough. Helps if you used to be a kitchen and bathroom fitter I guess
Paul
May be wrong but I think they've just 'skimmed' over the original therefore no layer of bonding to dry so quicker. The PVA is used to get a good bond to the original plaster (watered down builders glue)
Supragal
Used to be years ago that the rule of thumb was 6 months before you should paint a freshly plastered wall. There was a time when we lived in houses made from sticks I can't imagine that anyone would wait 6 months!!!!! Not disagreeing BTW just commenting

Chances are it was just skimmed? Unless it was an extention or something?
Ian R
Hopefully he used "dirty water" to mix it though

toyotasuprauk
Looks much better! The time it takes to dry varies based on lots of different factors from how it was mixed to the temp of the room but is normally a couple of days. Thats odd because I just spoke to a plasterer about it as I presumed I was wrong given I've never plastered before but he pretty much agreed with me!! Edited to say... sorry that sounds arsey, wasn't meant to!
toyotasuprauk
I'm only new to plastering but you would be able to see that it had dried out before you starting painting so its nothing to worry about.
