Baffling Printer problem

Recommended Posts

I've just about given up trying to fathom this one out...

All our printers are on 1 print server. There is one particular printer that is on there that just refuses to print from any user or any computer in the building whether it be logged on as a normal user or even as an admin.

The printer happily prints fine from the print server itself and can be pinged from anywhere. I just cant work out why it wont print across the network from a user's PC though.

It has been deleted and recreated with a brand new IP address too. Nothing.

The jobs seem to go through without any error messages but nothing comes out.

If anyone has anymore ideas, i'd be greatly appreciated as this is driving me insane now and taking up too much of my time. :sos:

What is the server OS ?

What is the printer make ?

What port are you using ?

When you add the printer to the server using local printer are you customising the printer port.

What driver are you using ( PS, PCL5, PCL6 )

let me know.

2K

HP Business Inkjet 2230

Not customising the printer port. Its set to RAW

Using PCL5e although have tried PCL6 and PostScript drivers too.

Try a DOS print and see if it provides you with an error

I'll try that...

What happens if you bypass the print server by connecting to the printer via a standard TCP/IP port from a client PC?

Also tried that but to no avail. It'll add the port, go to print, send the document but nothing comes out and the job has been cleared. I think it maybe something to do with the print spooler on the server. Seems like its knocking it out when you try and print from a client pc.
