Nope the whole idea of joining is that you take an oath. While you are being iniated you go through the tests and prove yourself. Obviously someone can spill the beans but traditionally they would rather die than tell.

Funny how so many Reverends are members ! :p

:D

not really, there is a (valid, I think) saying that if Christ were alive now he wouldn't be a Christian.

Same as the inventors of democracy would never see our Western regimes as 'democratic', not by a long shot.

Traditionally yes, but as pointed out earlier we are still human and therefore could still divulge. Masonry teaches you things that would happen and happened because of keeping quiet. :)

Would Masonry be around 4,000 years later if it was corrupt? would it exist in nearly every country? would it have people from the road sweeper to the King as members?

It is important that we remember that it was started as a benevolent fund. When a worker would get injured or die, the fraternity looked after the needs of the wife and family (hence masonic schools).

When the welfare state appeared here, masonry became less effective.

The First lodge was King Solomon's temple, the foundations of which are still in existence. The architect, a damm good one he was Mr Hirum Abif. These guys defined Masonry for all time. If you want to find a lot of accurate info try the Scottish rite Masonic Bible which is an excellent source.

Christian means "In the likeness of Christ", so He would hardly be following himself?

The meaning is that what passes as 'christianity' now is not necessarily the same as what He preached 2000 years ago (or whatever)

The idea is that there have been many layers of interpretation and re-writes through the centuries, conveniently adding or deleting bits so that the Good Books and scriptures appeal to the interests of the rulers at the time.

As in the 'spirit' may well have changed (no pun intended)
