Peter P
H E L P ! ! I lost power last night and managed to limp home! idle is really lumpy and it's spewing out sooty deposits from the exhaust (literally small lumps of carbon). Any ideas what this could be?! thinking turbos as it's a black smoke and can't see any other faults??? All help appreciated peeps. Cheers, Pete
osso
That really sounds to me like your intercooler pipes have popped off.. did you give your car a blast on the road before you lost power? black smoke is usually a sign your car is running very rich, and over fueling... its the blue smoke you need to worry about
CJ
I have blown IC pipes quite a few times and have never experienced symptoms like that.
Robert
whats the idle like mate ( rev range)? if your sure the IC pipes are fine then check around the MAF but im sure that would be ok. any more details though mate?
Dragonball
Maybe small lumps of ceramic turbos?? Doesn't sound good - try resetting the ECU and see if you can get any boost at all?
BURT
no paul,, he has stage 3 hybrids lol
Robert
also ive just taken the CATS off a car with broken turbos and there were black pieces of blade there. As my old car was fully decatted that would explain it just spitting the pieces out. hope you get it sorted mate. oh yeah it does have stage three hybrids on there dont listen to me then
letmeshowyou
def sounds like an IC pipe. One of the favourite places to come off is down the bottom on the battery side...
Robert
how are things going peter? any news?
Peter P
Looks like it was a pure overfueling issue and with a couple of loose pipes fitted back properly and the intercooler pipe sleeves all replaced and re-connected the car is running fine again! Thanks to all of you for your advice/tips and hopefully she'll be ok now. Cheers, Pete
