Scoboblio
The other day I posted a card to a young lady for valentines day next week (would've delivered it by hand but she's 200 miles away lol) Found out today that it arrived with the top of the envelope ripped open, presumably because it looks like a birthday card so may have had money inside It was in a hallmark envelope so must've been obvious. Annoyed isn't the word.... this must mean that someone in Royal Mail is picking out the choice letters and going through them like a bunch of filthy scavengers. I know that accidental damage can occur but this is just way too obvious. Or am I being paranoid as usual? Luckily the real gift is being delivered by courier on Tuesday Rant over (sort of) edited because I got the day wrong.

Lazarus
There was a programme on the telly about this a few weeks/months ago, its quite common apparently. Not trying to play a racist here, but it was portrayed as the cheap African labour employed in the London area sorting offices as being responsable. colsoop
Par for the course im afraid, ask Terminator. there is a thread about it somewhere as well. At least it still got to its destination
Scoboblio
I'm always apprehensive about sending money etc in the post because of the possibility of it being stolen.... but it's the sheer arrogant invasion of privacy I can't stand Especially from an organisation that's supposed to be a trusted part of British heritage (being Royal and all that ). Probably why I feel so gutted about it.

hogmaw
I don't get it, how do you LOSE 14 MILLION items of mail? you would need a warehouse to put em all in. mental
colsoop
That documentary showed, mail man, not bothering to deliver sacks of mail and just dumping them or returning them to the depot and being left to rot
Mike
If using snail mail I have two words for ANY item 'Special Delivery', costs an extra couple of quid but at least the thieving bastards won't nick it... A couple of years ago on Charlotte's birthday all the cards that came from London had been opened and cheques removed - I wrote a letter to Royal Mail - we share a front door with the flat downstairs - on the reply letter they basically said our neighbours were stealing from us.. rather than admit the problem...?! nice... Are there not other options now for sending mail?
letmeshowyou
Ian, this is the case with most of the mail I receive. Corners ripped open to see what's inside. I've raised it on many occassions with Royal Mail but nothing comes of it!
jamesmark
in the metro today about a relief royal mail worker that knicked the mail over a few years, they raided her house and could barely get the door open as a result of the stolen mail
Scoboblio
Bloody hell that's a co-incidence, Royal Mail getting fined just after I have a moan Doesn't make it any better for the people who've put up with it though
China Man
would be nice if the fine money is used in building a more robust system. Usless if otherwise, more like a running cost at the moment

terribleturner
i don't trust RM at all. I sent some calipers to a member on here and i made the mistake of just sending them normal post, and hey presto they went missing. Then i sent a few other items around the same time that instead of next day took like a week to 10 days before they showed up I used to go out with this girl who's ex was a postman and he used to take the mail home and put it under his bed if he couldn't be arsed to deliver it all. They used to go through the lot and burn everything afterwards. I told the Post Office this and that's as far as it went.
hogmaw
Having had a moan, there is another side to it, and that is over 99% does actually get to the right destination. No system is perfect, esp when you have low-paid people involved. I run a mail order business myself, and I rely 100% on the mail for getting records & CDs to people, I send about 20 packets a day and 99% success isn't bad. Agreed, the success rate is good and accidents / losses do happen.... but thieving simply shouldn't.
