hi did a search on how to change fluid on automatic gearbox

only came back with 1 find

how much fluid does the automatic box need for a change. i bought 16 liter of the toyota stuff to be safe, sure i read somewhere it takes 12 liter to do a change?

do you check the levels with the car hot and running, moving through gears to pump fluid through. just getting my torque convertor fitted and a transmission cooler too.

the bloke doing work for me saying in book it says it holds 1.9 liter but its only dropped out 1liter of fluid

eyefi if you on can you pm me your mobile number to pick your brains

thanks

the bloke doing my car has fitted the torque convertor just fitting the transmission cooler now. any help would be great thanks.

below quote from eyfi in an old thread,

there was also a link to a site but its down

take the car out for a good run (30 miles ish), get the fluid nice and hot. return home, park the car nice and level. run the box thru all the gears from park, pausing in each, then back up to N, check yr fluid then.

with mine, the noise would sometimes b there and other times not. i dont think yrs has just gone away.

ONLY toyota type T IV auto trans fluid should b used. did u notice ONLY.

there r in depth discussions on this in the bbs.

Yes box hot ,level ground. hand ands foot brake on engine running at tick over. Up and down from park through all the gears a few times to make sure the fluid is where it should be. Leave engine idleing for about one minute and check level.

You should get abot 2.0l out on a drain only, I have have this much out each time I have done it.

Can't remember the amount for a full change, eyefi has the figures I am sure.

Flush and complete change is very different and requires care.

Does that mean to check it with the engine still running?

Or does it mean to leave the engine idling for a minute then turn it off and check the level?

I don't want to get this wrong!
