uk-rich
i am lucky and have converted my head and fog lights to hids occasionaly when i turn them on one of them(not alwaysthe same one) will not "start up", think its battery voltage related due to the amount of power needed. just wondered if anyone else has had this
merckx
On startup each ballast can draw upto 15 Amps for anything upto approx 1.5 seconds, but this quickly drops to approx 3 Amps which is less than what your dipped beam would draw. If you've got the engine running first and don't switch on the dipped beam/fog lights together then your battery shouldn't have any problems. A good indicator of battery condition is how quickly it the engine cranks over on a cold winters morning.
francis
One of mine seems to do this... It's always the same one, and it seems to happen when it's cold.. If I leave them on for a few seconds, or try to restart them a few times it will always work.... and once they've been running for a while, they'll fire up first time. I've tried improving the grounding point on that side, it's still not ideal, but the other side is pretty similar... Any other suggestions? I think Michael also has this problem. PS I just changed my battery so it shouldn't be that.
uk-rich
its not my batt either, optima red top, really throws the engine over very quickly, think it "maybe one of those things"
michael
Yes both of mine do this - I have to flick them on/off so that the drivers side comes on, then carry on until the passenger one appears. Battery is only a month or so old, earthing all cleaned up... still problems. I'm guessing lights that don't come on when switched wouldn't pass an MOT, it's also really annoying when driving and the light drops, you have to pull over and go through the flick-on-flick-off-flick-on routine It's a shame, they are great when they are on but a real PITA - any ideas would be most appreciated, I'd love them to come on immediately! francis
Michael, do yours fire up fine once they've been running and have warmed up?
uk-rich
if your lights are going out when the "arc" has already been established, i think you may have a loose wire or something
michael
Michael, do yours fire up fine once they've been running and have warmed up? Yes normally, worst case is that they need far less flicks on the switch to get them back on again. Annoying.
