KaoriFan
just wondered if anyone carries a fire extinguisher in their Supra. i have thought about one for a while now, Halon based, unless something better these days. any advice on manufacturer, type, placement, etc would be appreciated thanks in advance Ian
Alex
I just got a smallish one from Halfords...and stuffed it in the glovebox....or behind my seat. Don't think you can get Halon anymore can you? Think they're all powder based, but I'd rather clear up powder than replace the entire car. The problem with Halon is its an Ozone depleater and I know there was some talk of banning it, but I don't know if that actually happened. I've put the question to our airfield fire brigade, see what he comes back with, but he did say it was definately frowned on now (Halon that is, not carrying a fire extinguisher in your car)
Gamer
Speaking as someone who recently had an engine fire that wrote off my car. I would strongly suggest that others carry a fire extinguisher. If I would have had one then the damage would have been limited to the engine problem that caused the fire.
tbourner
I got a Flamebeater one from speeding.co.uk, comes in silver black red blue or carbon as well. £20. //edit: Picture was HUUUUUGE
xksupra
I picked up one from Tesco's for about £8 - fits perfectly in the top glove box.
peter richards
i think halon has now been banned , just get a dry powder one. try google type in halon , it tells you all about it . i assumed it was banned , because in the oil and gas industry which i used to work , all the halon extinguishers were removed ,

Pete
From all reports I've had on engine fires everyone has said you may as well have just urinated on it as use one of those little extinguishers. Someone posted one here a while back with this comment too. http://www.mkivsupra.net/vbb/showthread.php?t=36701&highlight=extinguisher
Ian R
Halon (green) is now banned IFAIK. You can still get Powder and Carbon Dioxide

peter richards
its not as if your going to get electricuted , so i suppose it doesnt matter what you use . fire needs three elements to burn . fuel oxygen ignition , spark take away any of these and you dont have a fire . halon works on eliminating the oxygen , and as we breath this stuff , thats why it was removed from the oil instalations i used to work in . the extinguisher was as bad as the fire
