charlieboo
Having read the thread about which fuel to use, I am wondering why a UK-spec will run fine on normal unleaded (95 ron), but this is bad for a Jap-spec. Would I be right in assuming that it’s due to the ECU and if so, could a Jap-spec be mapped to run on 95 ron using a piggyback or similar?
MKIVDreamer
I think its because the JDMs are designed to run on the readily available 100RON fuel in Japan. I'm probably wrong though...
Chris Wilson
You are not wrong. Different maps in a UK spec. It's another reason why they are so lethargic
jackso11
Is it really that bad to run on 95? I run on which ever happens to be available at the time and it seems fine to me. 97 normally.
MKIVDreamer
Wow! - there's a risk I might actually be learning stuff about my car
Guest chiefvinso
You are not wrong. Different maps in a UK spec. It's another reason why they are so lethargic LMAO I forgot that the UK spec ran on shite fuel so really is it possible that the jspec on its correct fuel is putting out similar power as the so called superior uk spec??? JohnA
Easy now. I take it nobody wants to use manufacturer's figures for comparison, right? There ya go, he he...
RedM
Easy now. I take it nobody wants to use manufacturer's figures for comparison, right? There ya go, he he... All they prove is that they lie about their figures. Gentlemens agreement, my arse.
JohnA
Do they lie for all variants, or just one? lol...
charlieboo
You are not wrong. Different maps in a UK spec. It's another reason why they are so lethargic So say using something like an AEM EMS, it would be possible to create a map that allowed the oriental beast to run perfectly on lower octane fuel? Obviously there are no sane reasons for doing so, but I just wanted to check my understanding of the situation.
Guest chiefvinso
So say using something like an AEM EMS, it would be possible to create a map that allowed the oriental beast to run perfectly on lower octane fuel? Obviously there are no sane reasons for doing so, but I just wanted to check my understanding of the situation. I'm sure that they can be set up via a upgrade ecu or piggyback one to run on uk fuel. And with answer to John yes/no they just lie about the UK spec
Guest chiefvinso
All they prove is that they lie about their figures. Gentlemens agreement, my arse. Does anyone know what rpm this claimed 280 is at as I'm sure its lower than the peak which would mean the figure would raise, no?
JohnA
And with answer to John yes/no they just lie about the UK spec So they don't lie about the USSpec (320bhp on lower octane) then. ....phewwwww....
Alex
You can run it on 95ron - just don't expect it to a) like it b) be fast. When you've put in an entire tank of fuel SUL isn't really that much more expensive. If you want a performance car but are worried about MPG then please sell up. The stock ECU will back the timing off enough to run on UL...
Guest chiefvinso
So John, as you seem to know the figures what is the jspec/us spec and uk spec bhp at a given rpm?

Guest chiefvinso
Thats quite a nice torque curve, is mine inferior to that or similar. It drives as if it has torque on tap.....
JohnA
That is the whole point of the sequential setup: a fat, flat torque curve from the lowest possible rpm (before 2K) all the way to the top. The JSpec is similar, max torque is actually a tad higher.
