Latest Skyline mods

Ages ago I said I'd keep a bit of a diary as mods were made to my R33 GTS-t (Rear wheel drive) Skyline. I have now shirked a bit of work and done some stuff on my OWN car for a change, I have fully rose jointed the front suspension, and made a bar to remove the rear steer power rack (HICAS) which was heavy and undesirable on a track day car. I have also removed the silly overly wide for the rims tyres, and fittes ome 225 /40 fronts and some 245/40 rears, which totally transformed the car. The suspension kinematics have been measured and put into a suspension programme, and the geo rese to suit the track day, but road legal, Toyo tyres. It's had a shakedown at Donington last week and nothing fell off, and it suitably embarassesd somme serious machinery. Given the engine that's now in build it should go from merely frightening to dangerous! I read that as even more fun ;)

and more generally ftp://ftp.chriswilson.tv/ Look in appropriately nambed folders, (and don't waste your time expectantly looking in the "chicks" folder unless pheasant chicks are of interest, my logs show that folder to be oddly irresistable.... :) "Brazil" has pics of how the Pedro Diniz family spend their millions in Brazil, with a few hundred acre estate and their own private test track and pits complex / garage / heliport in the grounds. I was always told money doesn't make you happy, I believe it may be the case, but it makes misery a damned sight easier to bear...

Hi Chris what benifits or purpose would there be in a "fully rose jointed the front suspension"? Is this for Camber adjustment on your front tyres..

I ask as I recall a conversation I had and I can't remember his explination and of its use but I seem to remember something about camber? Or am I totally on the wrong path here ?

There is no compliance in a rod rnd (Rose joint is just a make), unlike a rubber bush, so geometry control is virtually absolute. Downside is noise, vibration and harshness. They are also adjustable, allowing rapid changes in castor and camber angles when setting the car up.

Cheers for putting me straight dude

The bottom arm ones are stainless NMB ones, at 160 quid a piece they will last a good while. The caster control one are Rose, not as good quality, but not as stressed, so should last 5000 miles or so, I'd guess. It'll only do track days and the odd trip out at the weekends, so 5000 is not unacceptable.

Stock sump is pressed tin, and a stock sump is on it at the moment. the new engine will have the GTR cast sump with fron diff machined off, and sump extension fitted. Haven't got a pic of it pre the mods.
