Is the reaction to the 'cartoons' a reasonable response.

Lets face it...the media AGAIN have fucked up.

But why riot at the Danish embassy? Is it possibly because if they don't react strongly and in an over the top manner the media machine will just keep churning out stuff that insults them? Lets face it, in this country the media have a complete lack of respect for anyone. I'm amazed and quite frankly impressed at the UK media's retraint at not republishing the cartoon...but I doubt it will be long before the media industry stirs up another hornets nest in the quest for money.

As already said they're paving the way for more western invasions into Muslim lands. (Which is another waste of money/lives.)

i'm not assuming, if you "despise them all" then obv you'r not as "open minded" as you like yourself to believe....

Open minded enough to explore most of the the major and a few of the minor religions before making up my mind about them.

You?

The problem with religion (all religion) is that it was invented by the powerful (rich) to control the weak and the stupid (poor). The basic teaching of all religion is: do what we say and good things will happen, disagree with us and bad things will happen (heaven and hell from a christian perspective, but they all have similar philosophies). Obviously for this to perpetuate itself all religions must be the only religion, so everyone is trying to destroy everyone elses beliefs to ensure the continuation of their own (and go to heaven). Its been going on for thousands of years and wont end any time soon. It just so happens that Islam is going through the same militant phase that Christianity went through a few hundred years ago with the crusades.

Only when we advance enough to see through this rubbish and follow our own destiny will it end. Its about time that we all realised that these so called Gods do nothing for us: I remember being told by a religious man to thank god for my children, but when I asked him who the parents of children killed in the tsunami should thank, he had no answer.

Religion is a sham and should be wiped from the face of the earth.

PS. prove the existance of a God and i'll retract all this.

snap.. but i did it to give myself a better understanding of other peoples beliefs/customs and cultures.... and to help me "adapt" to them... not "dispise" them for it...

I don't despise the people only their religions. Sadly, some people cannot be seperated from their faith.

ok, i'm honestly trying to understand your point..... but i do feel your overlooking the fact that its that same religion or faith which as pete has stated below, does create unique and well rounded individuals....

How have the media fucked up? The whole thing started back in September when a small Danish paper was talking about freedom of speech, and that people were too frightened to produce images of Mohammed, even though they legaly could do so. It took over 4 months for this to reach the middle east, and they demanded an appology. The Danes said 'no way, it's not illegal here'. In support of the Danes and free speech, newspapers in Portugal, Spain, France, Germany, Norway and Sweden joined Denmark in reprinting the cartoons. The British press have said they want nothing to do with the cartoons.

Islam bans intoxication so should we ban pubs incase it offends Muslims?

The catholic church bans contraception and sex before marriage- should Channel Four have taken Sex and the City off the air after the pilot episode?

iirc the Dane press haven't actually broken any Danish laws.

You're not getting me.

If it's disrespectful it's disrespectful. The media are always pushing things...and in who's interest is it? I really couldn't careless if Muslims don't want images of Mohammed printed...as IMO he never existed anyway, so why do the media feel the need to bring all this heat and stir everything up when all it's going to do is upset people? For me it's not about freedom of speech it's about diplomacy. Why is the media intent on stiring up bad feelings all the time?

Your post has grabbed the wrong end of the stick - I'm not defending the extremists, I think their idiots. But I was wondering if per chance the west would have taken any notice if the Muslims had just said "you know old bean that picture really grates on us and we'd really rather you didn't do that again, if you don't mind". No of course not...and is that then fair on those Muslims that the media are upsetting?

And when I say Muslims I AM NOT INCLUDING THE EXTREMISTS!!!

As you should know by now if you'd read my posts before - I think Religion is un-required in modern times. So yes if I had my way there would be no upset caused by images of a prophet, cause there would be no prophets, son's of god etc...

Original Quote by Alex

You said grate Huh huhuh Huh!!

It may be a bit extreme of me but with the new laws that "our" goverment have put in place why could they just not lock these people up or deport them as those signs where the clearest disrespect to our country that i have seen in some time.

Stop blagging off us if you dont like us and fook off to your perfect homeland!

There was an interesting debate about this on bbc2 tonight. As has been said, these cartoons were published 3 months ago and the matter was dealt with by danish law. However some people took it upon themselves to firstly take the cartoons to the middle east to show what was being published in Denmark, and secondly other European countries then promptly republished them. Both of these acts imo were deliberatly done to provoke unrest. Now we all know that the media thrives not on 'happy' stories but on stories that depict violence, disaster, hatred, conflict and unhappiness. Just look at any of the soaps, (if you can) when does anything happy happen to anyone. So the media further incites this reaction by transmitting these images and publicising them.

Perhaps the world has got too small and 'freedom of speech' is not what we think it should mean.

In an earlier article on the news was a brief reference to some protesters outside a theatre where 'Jerry Springer - the musical' or whatever it is called, was opening, hmmmm Jesus portrayed in a nappy, now did you see their placards. 'This is blasphemous' 'Ban this play' not 'Death to Jerry Springer' or 'Behead all actors'

I'm sorry but you can't live in Europe and hold up signs saying "KILL EUROPEANS" you also have to accept that not everyone is the same religion. Also need to consider how it makes your religion appear as a whole by this kind of reaction.

By "you" I mean the generic. Not anyone in particular.

Exactly. TBH i hadn't actually seen the full extent of the coverage because i have tried to avoid another religious outcry but watched the news last night and i was so annoyed. Couldn't believe those t*ats walking down the street with those placards saying 'death to europeans' and 'anyone who insults will die'. In LONDON and being watched by police and they did f*ck all. YOU ARE A EUROPEAN YOU DIVE. And if you aren't then why are you here???

I was also disturbed by the next news feature about jewish people being attacked by Muslim people outside a synagogue in London. So minority groups are attacking other minority groups? This needs some serious addressing.
