Is the reaction to the 'cartoons' a reasonable response.

What a load of bollocks. It's just another excuse for people to kick off again.

FFS, you didn't see the Monty Python boys getting stoned for The Life of Brian. Ok, so it caused a bit of a stir but it was just for a laugh.

Some religions take themselves far too seriously.

Yes this religion takes its self FAR too seriously.

Cases like this and the time a Muslim was offended by the lid of a burger king desert, resulting in burger king being forced into spending thousands to redesign the lid, but despite that someone still decided that all muslims worldwide should boycott Burger King!

But Pete that could just be because we are not religious enough to be so offended

Possibly....or could it be that we just don't take offense at stupid crap. It's something one guy and a newspaper did and people seem to be ready to condemn a whole country over it. They'll regret it for the rest of their lives.

Welcome to the 21st Century....

I'm so glad you said that. I was reading the beginning of this tread and thinking, no one kicked off that much about life of brian or dogma for example.

As a different angle possibly, do people not just think that this stuff sells ie media in general 'jump on the bandwagon' of the slightest sniff of religious stuff to make money?

Private eye have been doing 'tongue in cheek' for years. Wish people would just calm down and think about things logically.

I think it was labelled blasphemous at the time and did get banned for a period I believe? The church was fairly outraged, but that's about it.

Apparently it opened in london dispite a protest of hymn singers and it was banned in parts of surrey and devon oh and the bible belt in america. No burning or setting fire to anything. Although i am a bit young to know the full extent of it all.

I s'pose that Passion film caused uproar with some, not sure if there were any riots or anything though.

Am quite uneducated about the whole thing really, just sick of things being taken too seriously.

It's sad that the extremist protesters are so heavily portrayed by the media, which in turn can taint people's views of all muslims - small-minded I know, but in general people tend to lap up what the media serves them.

Personally, I think the bunch of c**ts [protesters in question] obvioulsy hate the west so much we should do them a favour and fly them straight back to Afghanistan, let them go play with their beloved Bin Liner in his cave somewhere.

Freedom of speech is all well and good, but allowing a group of psychos to troll around basically threatening to kill everyone is bit daft IMO.

I feel sorry for the normal muslims in this country, they are at risk of a backlash if this minority continue to preach their hate for the West.

As for those in this minority I think they should all be shot or all hearded into a big cage and shipped off. They are no good to man nor beast. Same goes for anyone like them of any religious belief, I think religion is a crock of sh*te anyway, so I really get pissed off when people try to force it on you and make other people suffer for their religious beliefs. I have no problem with people have religious beliefs...but I just don't really care. I hope the police have a big list of names from the video footage of the protests and detain lots of the idiots. Espescially the twat dressed up as a suicide bomber.....he should have been shot on sight!

what I dont get is why we have this which religion are you, since most are very very small changes between them, some even with mohammed are basically the same except they worship him instead of jesus, I think its a case of too much time, with not much to do.

no, muslims don't "worship" any prophet... just god.

I was actually scared when watching the news last night. We have come so far in the world, that we still have to resort to violence and chaos.

I don't even pretend to know anything about their religion, but from my eyes it just looked like an excuse for violence.

Fairenough to protest but there are ways to go about it.

What makes it worse in my eyes as well, is that they are only representing a minority of Muslims.

:(

Has anyone seen this cartoon?

I have and found it mildly funny but no way as upsetting as some are making out.

The outrage is incredible considering they were published a while ago, why all the fuss now and not them?

The major problem though is free speech. We in the Western countries can say or do what we like (within reason and the laws) but in some other countries and states the chance of these cartoons being taken as a joke is unlikely.

Shame we can't all be :friends:

The way I see it is this...

The Muslims on the news burning flags etc. are basically out there at the drop of a hat, i.e their fairly pissed off about something..?

Whether it's the cartoons or something else? I don't know...? seem like fairly poor countries, so no doubt their angry over the same shit we are...

The media loves nothing more to show us westerners how volatile these people can be -firing automatic guns in the air for any random reason...

As long they can convey that these people are 'scary and volatile' (however few of them there are?), then us 'really intelligent' westerns will form (or develop further) petty racists beliefs about these people...

The benefit being, Mr Bush and co. can jump in and attack whichever one of these Muslim countries he likes (Arran anyone?), safe in the knowledge the media have generated apathy in the minds of the people who should be opposing him...

"They're all religious nutters aren't they?"

It's all about money and oil, basically... all this 'cartoon' stuff is pre-arranged to help you form your opinion... :diablo:
