brake problem after changing pads......no brakes!!

right ive changed the pads (done this before)

but i had a sticking front caliper, one of the pistons (2 pot) was moving freely but the other one only a little way. anyway i decided this would be ok for me to get to where i need to go for work and back because their new pads and 2nd piston is moving enough.

Anyway ive pumped pedals with the engine off and pedal comes back hard.

Turn engine on....pedal goes instantly soft.

I think one of the seals may have a pin sized hole in it on the caliper, would this cause this? any ideas?

yes the rad cap is back on

Hi mate, yes there is very very noticable difference!

The car slightly brakes with my foot right down on the floor. When i say slightly, i mean doing 5mph takes 10 - 15ft to stop.

I was doing this cause got to drive to brighton tomorrow, making other arrangements now and will try to fix when back, but i cant work out the problem :badidea:

Ohh and yes both pads in :p

That'll be fine, Brighton aint far and its a NA :run:

Sounds Like air in the system although a little bizzare how it would be that bad

Thats gotta be related to the servo assist hasn't it?? If the pedal is solid with the engine off and then becomes soft then its losing the power through the servo. If it was air in the system the pedal would be springy at least. If it was a hole in the piaton seal there'd be oil everywhere to cause the pedal to go straight to the floor.

My guess would the servo or the brake master cylinder.

I would say it's definately the piston seals, it's the only thing that's been disturbed.

With the engine running the pedal's more likely to go soft as you have more pressure either compressing any air that's got in or pushing fluid out. More difficult to do this without servo assistance, making the pedal feel firmer.

well i got back and decided to bleed the system I bled one brake just a little and pedal instantly had more feel when engine on.

I have bled the system and although pedal now doesnt reach the floor and brakes well, i still have a spongey bit at the top of the pedal :( time to redo again.

So anyway the cause; Air in the system
