Whitesupraboy2
right ive changed the pads (done this before) but i had a sticking front caliper, one of the pistons (2 pot) was moving freely but the other one only a little way. anyway i decided this would be ok for me to get to where i need to go for work and back because their new pads and 2nd piston is moving enough. Anyway ive pumped pedals with the engine off and pedal comes back hard. Turn engine on....pedal goes instantly soft. I think one of the seals may have a pin sized hole in it on the caliper, would this cause this? any ideas? yes the rad cap is back on

Lucifer
Did you represurise the brakes a few times? Did you check the fluid level? Did you check for leeks under pressure (friend needed or a long bar)
Whitesupraboy2
Yes repressuried and brakes fully back Start engine brakes gone. Turn engine off and pump and brakes back. Fluid at top all fine.. I looked for leaks of it dripping on to inside of the wheel but i cant see any
b_have
James, Are you sure the pedal is going to the floor? The pedal will always feel solid when the engine is off (no servo). Sure you put both pads in?
Whitesupraboy2
Hi mate, yes there is very very noticable difference! The car slightly brakes with my foot right down on the floor. When i say slightly, i mean doing 5mph takes 10 - 15ft to stop. I was doing this cause got to drive to brighton tomorrow, making other arrangements now and will try to fix when back, but i cant work out the problem Ohh and yes both pads in
Lucifer
May want to bleed tham as you may have moved some air in the system from one pot to the centre, all be it unlikley.
Whitesupraboy2
think plan is when i get back on the sat, Get bro during week to get refurb kit for fronts (as thinking bout it, i reckon maybe this very small hole in seal is fine when servo not on, then when it comes on is probably just leaking) Refurb fronts, bleed system Pray to the brake gods

dangerous brain
Thats gotta be related to the servo assist hasn't it?? If the pedal is solid with the engine off and then becomes soft then its losing the power through the servo. If it was air in the system the pedal would be springy at least. If it was a hole in the piaton seal there'd be oil everywhere to cause the pedal to go straight to the floor. My guess would the servo or the brake master cylinder. merckx
I would say it's definately the piston seals, it's the only thing that's been disturbed. With the engine running the pedal's more likely to go soft as you have more pressure either compressing any air that's got in or pushing fluid out. More difficult to do this without servo assistance, making the pedal feel firmer.
dangerous brain
If its the piston seals how comes its not pushing the fluid out? Also you would get some resistance that slowly dissapated as the fluid went past the piston seal and out onto the road.
Whitesupraboy2
Ive decided first thing im doing next weekend now is getting the car on axle stands without wheels and looking for any fluid loss at all! with me pumping the pedal with the car running and with the car not running

Whitesupraboy2
well i got back and decided to bleed the system I bled one brake just a little and pedal instantly had more feel when engine on. I have bled the system and although pedal now doesnt reach the floor and brakes well, i still have a spongey bit at the top of the pedal time to redo again. So anyway the cause; Air in the system
