RICHARDA
Added to the old engine oil, run up to temp then drained, before oil change. Any good? Anyone do this when they oil change? Or not needed? Opinions. Ta Rich
uk-rich
i use it every time, let it drain for ages, then wait some more
RICHARDA
Hi Rich Do you mean the additive that you pour in, do you know what it consists of? Ta
paul mac
whoa there boy, i've read disturbing things about these additives, all the crap/sludge etc that accumulates in your engine over the years is quite happy and settled doing its thing, if you then pour half a litre of petrol into the oil all this stuff gets loosened and makes its bid for freedom ending up at best in the sump at worst blocking something critical up, i'de stear clear and just change the oil regularly
RICHARDA
Exactly Paul I want to get to the bottom of whether this is good practice or not as many garages will carry out this procedure as part of a service. Does it serve a purpose on nearly new cars for example? Or generally speaking for our not so new Supras is this not required? What does engine fulsh actually contain? Petrol derivitives? Apologies for any spelling, been out and a bit pissed now. Ta Rich
paul mac
i suppose using this on nearly new engines would be fine as you would'nt allow any build up or carbonised oil to occur, the problem is with older engines that have a build up and then you "shock" the system by putting this additive in you could disturb stuff that really isnt doing any harm and risk it blocking things up, i had the cams out of mine a while ago and the oil ways to the bearings are very small as is the feed to the turbos, i would not put this in an older engine, thats my opinion there may be people who have had no problems with it
RICHARDA
Paul this makes sense to me, i won't bother disturbing things then.
markrzs
Thats handy to know, just regular oil changes then.
uk-rich
well i have used it on all the cars ive ever had, never had a problem, all it really does is thin the oil down so you get a thorough drain.
