SUPRALOOPY
right here we go step by step. 1. use 120 grit dry to remove rubber stuff (messy) 2. finish off with 500 grit wet to remove bad scratches. and then use a spirit or panel wipe to clean. 3. using a grey cellulose primer (aerosol available from any good motor factor) spray even but not thick coats of primer until well covered. (enough to be able to wet flat without going through) 4. using a satin black aerosol guide coat the dry primer (spray a fine speckled coat over the grey) and then when dry using 800 grit wet flat the primer till guidecoat has gone (then you know its smooth) 5. dry the panels and spirit wipe clean. then using an aerosol of 5 wheel silver spray even coats onto the panels and wait about 5-10 mins between coats. keep doing this until you are happy that its covered and it has layed down ok. 6 it is very important to do this in the right tempreture or the paint will bloom( go milky and cloudy) best to do this indoors or in a heated garage or spraybooth. 7. BTW the product is called five wheel siver and is used for bullshitting up old steel wheels. DO NOT buy a basecoat silver as you WILL have to laquer it. hope this helps good luck, Dave

Jive
That looks great and a good write up as well. I really do want to do mine now Where did you get the five wheel silver paint from or is it widely available from the likes of Halfords? How many cans did it take for the whole lot? jackso11
Does anyone know of a good black paint to use, to get the standard look back without the rubber crap. I was going to use black with a matt laquer if I can find one, but it would be good it someone knew of a paint I didn't have to laquer! Marco
I've tried again to get that light out, but it's not having any of it lol! It's not too bad tbh, I can leave the bottom bit of the ashtray in there, and still take the panel off. edit: w00t 2000th post

chilli
ahhhh excellent thread as I was only thinking (day dreaming whilst stuck in a meeting at work lol) that it would be good to redo my dash sometime Just got to decide on the best colour, silver is an option, so is black but I'm kinda thinking dark metallic grey might be nice. also, is it easy / worth it to convert to a face lift dash? mine is just slightly pre face-lift and some extra dials might be nice... jackso11
Thing is when going to a facelift dash, the ODO is no longer digital. So you would have to 'clock' a face lift dial set to get the same reading. IMO Toyota made a mistake changing from digital to the wheel type. Seems like going backwards to me.
