Bad news about my car.

Really sorry to hear this G.

I had an oil pipe blow off a few years ago on mine, you get no warning and before you know it, a LOT of damage is done. Must be terrible watching your p & j go up in flames

Good luck with the new car :ok:

Thanks guys...

The latest on the cause is that it was piston failure leading to crankshaft pressure, leading to oil spray over the manifold/turbo.

Was it the front oil seal that blew, or is it impossible to tell now? I had same problem on my old engine, back pressure into crank case blew front oil seal 3 times, that seems to always be the weak point that goes first.

Yes Wayne, luckily I did get the feature work done for JP mag. I called the bloke at the mag today and let him know what happened. He was just about to send me the print to have a read over for final approval too, he might need to add a few words now. :badidea:

Life goes on and I am feeling much better now knowing that I will be replacing her with a real fine example of a Supra.

Thanks again everyone for the kind words, it does mean a lot.

Sorry to hear. I nearly had this happen, caught it just in time, taught me to use metal oil pipes only on my turbos. Enjoy the Supra!.

It was not an oil line as I had just guessed it was that, all I knew is it was an oil related fire. Apparently at least one piston failed which provided sufficient crankcase pressure to overcome the breather system, which in turn sprayed oil over a glowing hot turbo and manifold with catastrophic consequences.

Thanks again for the commiserations everyone. I am feeling happy yet sad at the same time.
