Gamer
Unfortunately on Thurs afternoon my car had an engine fire that did some extensive damage. Apparently the car burst an oil line or something of that nature as it dumped the oil on the manifold it caught fire. I pulled over with white smoke coming out that turned to black in seconds. Opened up the bonnet and the whole of the hot side of the engine was aflame. I immediately closed the bonnet and called fire services. It is a write off, the engine is beyond help, most of the front nose and everything within it has melted away, there is damage to the bonnet where the fire crew had to pry it open, fire damage to both wings. Anything aluminium within the engine compartment dis-integrated. There is some things for me to be thankful for though. There is still plenty left on the car that is completely fine. The interior is untouched, wheels and such are fine, no water damage inside or anything. Still quite a few performance related engine bits that are fine (manifold, cams, possibly turbo ect.) All my audio equip/electronics still fine... I have taken the decision to not get another Soarer as the amount of cash and time and effort to get it to the state that I had is just too much for me to want to do again. It would be different if the parts and knowledge were more readily available for the Soarer but that is not the case and I am tired of being the one to pay over the odds for parts/ect because there is nothing else available or no other competition between retailers. It is not all bad news though, I have looked on the bright side and taken steps to secure myself another very nice car. I have decided that I will stay with Toyota though so it is not a complete loss.. The car in question is a VERY well known Supra on these boards. I probably should not mention just which one until the deal is finalised but needless to say that Supra will be staying with this club. Alex
Was a nice Soarer, real shame you've lost it....still sounds like things are going to get better and considering the spec of your Soarer I can imagine the new Supra will be very very nice. Terry's or CJ's would be my guess. And you've sent CJ a PM...
Rayman
Sorry to hear that it was a fantastic one off example of a soarer from the picture i ve seen. Hope all the insurance goes through without any hassle, and good to see you have supra ownership pending.
markrzs
Christ Joe, really sorry to hear this, just glad your fine ! Your new car is it a Black by any chance ?
Gamer
Thanks for the kind words everyone. I feel a bit better about things now that I have had a day or two for it to all sink in... Bit of a shock watching your pride and joy going up in flames and not being able to do anything about it... You can be damn sure that I will be looking at getting one of those engine bay fire suppression kits (called Halo I believe ??).. One door closes and another one opens. RedM
Jeez, Sorry to read about your car. Certainly did look like a good un. Thankfully, no human damage done. ...and at least Terrys car still seems to be available for when I win the lottery.
Gaz Walker
I am gutted for you Joe. It must be heartbreaking seeing your hard work go up in flames like that. That car was by far the best all round Soarer in the UK and at least you can say that you owned/built it. If you need any invoices from me for your insurance give me a shout. Good luck with your next car Gaz.
