Bill Prawn
Those of a certain age will remember how important this was in the late70's early 80's. But now times they-are-a-changing and it seems its no longer wanted. Goodbye Smash Hits

RedM
If it wasn't for Smash Hits and their excellent use of Madonna pics my early teens would have been very dull. RIP.
DaveM
That does make me feel old. I'm sure I still have the flexidiscs off of the first two or three editions of Smash Hits somewhere in the record collection. One of them was The Jam but I can't remember who the others were by. One of them may have been by Squeeze. I can see this turning to an old boys thread.
Bill Prawn
We all still recall the lyrics to songs from our chilhood/early teens because of Smash Hits. I remember hiding under the bed sheets with a torch reading the song-words whilst listening to Radio Luxembourg fade in and out:)
Pete
Thank god that load of pap has gone. Hated it. Always pushing crap music to teenagers. I never conformed gaining far more enjoyment out of NME.

I never conformed gaining far more enjoyment out of NME. Yeah, but NME, Kerrang, Melody Maker etc never had the lyrics. The only ones that did were Smash Hits and Disco 45 and occasionally in La la la la la Look-In:respekt:

What is it with men and magazines ffs. Throw them away and move on! I really should do. I'm a horder. I've got hundreds of Look-In, Your Sinclair, Sinclair User, Crash, Zero, PC Format, lots of other PC mags, Beno, 2000AD, Judge Dredd, Aliens, all filed away. The comics are definately staying, but the mags are worthless other than for curiosity.
hadyn
I find the current NME offensive to my intelligence. Now that really is pap.
