Guest averyp2
hi all, im new to this site, im basically looking for advice on supras so i thought this will be the place to ask! im after a sz or a szr soon, and was wanting to know a little about them, (20yrs old so cant afford the turbo so dont go there!). Any info on mpg if i drive sensibly, engine maintanence stuff,ie are they reliable, expensive to fix, and what to look for in buying one. any info appreciated, Paul
Ian W
right, for a kick-off you'll probably find that insurance will be similar for TT as it will an N/A. they're not the cheapest to fix but not that much goes wrong with them (although most are getting on a bit now with your average Supra being about ten years old). there's a thread on what to look for when buying one, average mpg should be about 20-24ish mpg depending on how you drive of course ....oh, and the red ones are fastest
mikeyb10supra
. Any info on mpg if i drive sensibly Welcome mate......if you are concerned about this, a supra is not for you, and if they go wrong (note>) they are a lot of money to put right
colsoop
I agree with the above, if MPG is an issue walk away now All the info you need and more is just a click away, on the search button. Spend an evening reading the FAQ's as well it will help you a lot if you decide to go ahead and buy one. Also get quotes for insurance as well for both the N/A and the TT as they don't tend to differ greatly in the quoted premiums. good luck. lambertpig
my tt uses about the same mpg as a 5.5L V8 merc as its my 2nd car i dont really care but if its your only car and you are budget wise then think about it
gaz1
i use a tank a week but only drive it sundays normaly,so if petrol is an issue mmmm how about a punto lol, only joking but they do drink loads:rolleyes:
5upra
Why are you worried about MPG ?, my Dad worries about MPG and he drives a Rover !!!! Supra Mk1V's are simply trouser-burstingly fabulous cars, its what they look like and drive like thats important ( im on my 5th ). I am also a new member and have just paid £300 fully comp for a `94 aero including after market wheel ins. through Adrian Flux. You need a Cat.1 alarm for a better quote - they accept cat.2 and limited mileage. Give the car a regular oil and filter services, check and change the coolant regularly or fill with Toyota "for life" coolant. Find a specialist like "Supraman" Meopham Kent -01474815332- rather than Toyota main agents. These cars are VERY reliable.
xksupra
No point at all giving an MPG figure for driving sensibly, Supra and Sensible just isnt going to happen.... But who cares about the cost when your this big!
China Man
Test drive a few or at least sit in a few while other drive. Make sure you have been in a few from members here and the fore court. I have seen some very bad examples with a high price tag and some mint ones at silly low prices. You will find TT prices and SZ ones over lap a bit because I find SZ tends to have body kits and mods where more TT are standard.
tbourner
I get 23mpg average in the TT, heard that some people get less in NAs!! Is it the cost of the insurance you're worried about or the initial cost to buy?
Guest averyp2
its the initial price to buy thats the problem, i can get insurance for about £200 on a tt than an n/a but im looking to buy one as cheap as possible.I see n/a's going for £3500, yet havnt seen any tt under £5000, irrespective of milage. Cheers for your replies, very helpful.
Ian W
i had a similar problem and couldn't afford the initial outlay for a TT. i would certainly go for as good a car as you can afford as you most definitely don't want one that's been abused at all
Ark
No offense (especially not to anyone trying to sell theirs right now), but Supras at those prices are probably going to be shitters, either with intergalactic mileages, or other negatives. I say 'probably' because there are going to be a few gems with low prices to sell fast.
Ian W
totally agree with you Ark, hence why i said get as good a car as possible which in his price range will definitely be an N/A.
China Man
I bought mine for 7k from a member here more than a year ago and it gave me no trouble at all the the interior is better than a lot of the 9k ones I seen at trader. There is a member selling a tt for 5500 and it doesn't hurt to search and wait for the right one to come along. If money is a problem then you will be looking for a standard supra with no silly mods and wheels so I think 5000 is not totally impossible, just keep looking and like I said see as many as you can then you can tell what is good and bad for yourself. geoffvalenti
Look, I don't want to piss on anyones parade here, but if you can't afford £5k to buy it, you're NEVER going to be able to afford to run the thing. You're looking at 20 or less mpg, high cost insurance (at 20 it's going to be frightening) expensive maintenance and servicing costs and if it really goes wrong, the amount to fix it will make you cry Supra's are great (or should that be "grate" ) cars, but there are lots of less expensive cars around, that are well within your running costs budget, that can be lots of fun too. Owning a broken down Supra, that you can't afford to fix is no fun for anybody. Supras were £40k when they were new, unfortunately the spares and running costs reflect just that

Even the fuel bill I can except that but....... All the mods cost....jeez My girlfriend always tell me why do you NEED to change this and that...acturally there are no NEED but you just do

I ask as I tried everyone for about a year and had no luck at all! But yep very reliable and depending on your mileage I normally filled up £50 a week easy doing 20 miles a day. Try to get a facelift if you can no point just buying any old cheap one.
Bobbeh
Well said Jeff. If I was looking for a Supra I would ensure I had at least the same amount again sitting there just incase. Thats not implying the cars are about to explode, but running costs, insurance, and parts could cost you.
China Man
Bobbeh you are loaded are you not? 10k plus another 10k reserve, I wish i had that much.
Guest averyp2
cheers again for the info guys, its putting it into perspective for me thats for sure!depending on circumstances im still looking to get one, but i know what im in for now. £1100 for a n/a, £1300 a tt on insurance by the way, thats why im so interested, unlike the £2000 quoted for a scoobie!
