Bill Prawn
No wonder their profits are up, it's all the Optimax we use Shell record profits
DamanC
Absolute joke! although i thought what they make on the petrol side of things was only about 30% of their profits, i could be wrong though. Would be nice to make that much a year wouldnt it
Alex
Little, if any, profit comes from forecourt sales of fuel - which in the UK attracts among the highest taxes in Europe. That's a no then to lower fuel prices.
JohnA
I'm proud to say they haven't made a PENNY out of me. No OptiCrap here, thank you very much...
RedM
Optimax has risen 3p locally in the last fornight. Might try Tesco tonight.
JohnA
If you have near you a Tesco stocking 99RON it's a no-brainer really. Until Shell publish the spec of their Optimax 'wonderfuel' I'll be sceptical of any marketing claims. I'd also go for the 99RON even if it were *more* expensive, which thankfully it isn't. Far from that. Not prepared to take any chances under boost.

It works, it cleans well. Evo got good power from Tesco 99 so recommended a 3:1 ratio of fill ups between tesco's and optimax because the Tesco's fuel was very advanced on the cleaning side of things. But they also said just use what works for you. Shell is not the devil and your personal hatred of them seems to cloud any objectivity. RedM
Petrolprices.com says that Tesco99 (with a flake) is the same price as Optimax locally.

Alex
Sorry but it's not keyboard warrioring it's just everytime Shell is mentioned John gets on his soapbox about Optimax. Sometimes I have to vent, and yes I'm particularly stressed at work right now Also Ian's not in to rein in my enthusiasm/pull his weight! JohnA
What i wanna know is when will we be getting Optimax Extreme?? 100ron petrol Now that would be a move in the right direction. As long as they market it as 100RON and not rely on rumours and innuendo. Here is the specification of the Tesco fuel. Clearly 99RON/87MON Until Shell publish their own spec for Optimax, there will always be a cloud over the issue. Ads with Ferrari pictures and fish swimming faster just don't cut it with me. Sorry. JohnA
Not sure about the 5% ethanol, that stuff evaporates fast. MPG will get worse as well, because the calorific value of ethanol is lower - so is the stoich AFR. I'd prefer the 100RON to be there because of distillation, then add whatever I want to add in the juice. That way I can only add 'spices' during high boost operation, what's the point during idle/off-boost?
