Chris Wilson
I fancy using this voice over IP stuff, but being a computer numpty I need some instructions for an idiot, for example, can I plug a normal analogue phone into my Netgear DG834 router, and if not, how do I connect a phone? How hard is it all to set up? Can I call abroad with it? Can people witha normal analogue phone ring me on it, if they do NOT have VOIP? Are there similar alternatives to VOIP? Cheers. GeordieSteve
Never used it but I'd imagine you'd need an IP phone (http://www.aria.co.uk... very cheap)
Pete
We had some new gizmo that you CAN plug your phone directly into and turn into a VoIP phone. http://www.dlink.com/products/?sec=1&pid=447 or for a Skype one http://www.dlink.com/products/?sec=1&pid=
whitesupratt
You need to subscribe to a VOIP service through your providor, then you eed a VOIP modem! there is normaly an extra monthly/annual charge for a VOIP service, normaly another line rental charge! I used to sell broadband and VOIP services
Pete
We have VoIP phones too. USB. http://www.midlandcomputers.com/default.asp?area=prodview&path=149&prodid=5974 Yep - you need to run something like Skype and pay for a phone number to accept incoming calls to. However, if you have a home ADSL connection with Nildram I had an email today (as a reseller of theirs) saying you get something like 500 minutes of free VoIP calls and line rental included in your normal ADSL connection. Here it is - http://hometalk.nildram.net/ They also do a 9.99 scheme if you don't have ADSL from them.
