supragold Posted January 30, 2006 Share Posted January 30, 2006 I have an HKS G-D Max twin plate padle clutch and have only done approx. 4,000 miles and its slipping like a bastard. It started to slip a little recently but not a great deal and was hard to tell if it was actually the clutch due to the slippery roads of late, but now its undriveable. I wondered if anyone has experience with twin plates and how long they should last. I hope they should last more than 4,000 miles for the amount it cost me. I haven't even been giving it a hard ride as I've been running the car in and it hasn't been ideal conditions. Please help. Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
chilli Posted January 30, 2006 Share Posted January 30, 2006 Mine has a on/off clutch, has had since I got the car nearly a year ago, not been any trouble - just takes a lot of getting used too! supragold Posted January 30, 2006 Author Share Posted January 30, 2006 Thats what I'm hoping but performance company's tend to wash their hands of their products once fitted to a car. If they do then I'm going to kick up. This clutch was easy to get used to because its meant to be a new design which allows for big horse power and fast launches but is also very driveable. Thats why I got it. Its actually lighter to use than stock but does hop a little when you've been sat in traffic for some time. I'm going to drop the box next week and take a look. Whats the use of that if they die ater 4k anyway, I'd complain for sure, get them to replace it. Mine is better now, I find it gets sharper the harder you push it (guess it gets hot?) if you treat it nice, it treats you nice lol - It's quite drivable now but I still have to think twice when I jump in it after driving a normal car! Have you driven it as you would a normal clutch/ No and yes to the to questions, respectively will both kill them in very short order. Like coil over suspension 90% of people neither need, nor should have, a twin plate clutch. Most are really track use only. And I intended on doing alot of drag runs which is why I had been running it in when the season had finished. A normal clutch wouldn't cope with my power on the quarter. Just wanted to know so I have some amo with HKS and the people that told me it can't be adjusted. Can I damage my flywheel if i kept driving it? Had one in a mates Skyline GTS with around 350bhp, fitted it brand new, it lasted around 4 - 5000 miles tops, we put it down to the fact he drives to London in it everyday so is always in stop start traffic. Only 1 of the plates wore out though, we replaced it with an overhaul kit(new plates)and it happened again. Stuck an RPS single plate in now and no bother what so ever. Is there a single plate clutch that could cope with 575bhp & 545lbft at the hubs and be good at 1/4 miles? Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
