CardiffSupra
Ello all, Got the misses a freeview box the other day for her b'day, iv set it all up and the signal is good but the quality is only 2%, so it cant find any channels, someone has told me to get a booster box or something to boost the signal, anyone had the same problem? Cheers Ga.
merckx
A booster box won't improve the signal quality at all . Sometimes the existing terrestial aerial isn't good enough for the digital signal and an aerial upgrade may be required. I'm not sure if all of the broacasting transmitters (might be okay with normal tv channels) are broadcasting the digital signal.
RedM
You need a good quality aerial I'm afraid. £100 should do it.
Bobbeh
You serious? I thought you could pick a booster kit up for a much lower amount that helps. Bah. We have the same problem downstairs, crappy weak signal but thats hooked up to our aerial in the loft. Just lucky we have cable too!

Cheers Ga. Yep, I've got the same prob too. Got a freeview box for the TV upstairs, but made the mistake of telling the decorators painting the house that they could remove the old TV aerial cables that were running down the outside wall ( I'm on NTL cable for the main TV downstairs & the Net ). Aarrgghh! Obviously the signal strength here in Cardiff isn't strong enough to get a good digital signal with a crappy little indoor aerial. Bummer. P.S. Whereabouts in Cardiff are you? I'm looking for a nice Supe, just missed out on two nice ones recently, a black NA and a gorgeous red aerotop... electricmini
bammbamm
Yep bought one of these at Christmas for the girlfriend, wouldn’t pick up any channels at all got one of them boosters that plug into the wall socket, works fine now
chilli
I purchased a USB freeview dongle for my laptop the other week, on the tiny indoor aerial that came with it, it picks up next to nothing, using the signal from the standard roof aerial it finds approx 40 channels, all excellent quality. I think a lot depends on where you live, poor signal strength in your area means you need to spend more on a decent aerial of course.

Shovels
Sounds like you could do with a high gain aerial, won't help that it's in your loft either. Any chance of moving it outside? You can spend hundreds on trying to get a good signal for freeview, sometimes it's just easier to go down the sky route. You can get pre-amps as well as boosters. The pre-amp will boost the signal as soon as it is received. You can then use good quality cable from the aerial down to the unit.
