Problem with TRL VFCC

Jake

Recommended Posts

I wired up a TRL VFCC to my motor at the weekend but it wasn't right. The car was difficult to start and when it did start it smoked really badly. I checked that the wiring was connected soundly and it seemed fine, so I removed the unit and all was well again (apart hitting Fuel Cut all the time of course)

So what could be wrong? I had the black and red wires connected to the corresponding black and red wires going to my SLD, and the blue and green wires connected into the newly cut (I forget what colour, black and yellow stripe maybe?) wire coming from pin number 62 on this diagram :

The pin next to it, Pin number 61, was not filled by a wire, it had a kind of plug in it, is that right?

Did I fit the VFCC incorrectly or might the unit be faulty? I'm guessing that I did something wrong but I can't understand what it was.

Any ideas guys?

2 things come to mind before someone else maybe pete comes along.

1) you definately had the green and blue wires round the right way?

And what happened to me was, in my over physical installation (!)

2) I had actually pulled the plug off inside the unit, simply fixed by taking the back off (4 screws ?) and reattaching.

Yeah definitely had the wires on right way round. I just went and checked the plug inside the box and it's fine.

Thanks anyway

Always ring me to ask direct.

I have my phone directed to the new workshop so you'll have to try my mobile in the evenings or weekends 07802 412969

1: GREEN connected to the LOOM side of the MAP wire?

2: BLUE connected to the ECU side

3: the MAP wire is CUT and not spliced into? The VFCC must sit in series with the wire and not parallel.

4: Is this one of the new tiny units? 35mm*35mm*10mm ?

If so it has no detachable connector inside and all wires are soldered on (learnt from my mistakes :) )

5: Read the setting up procedure in the Specific Product Settings

6: The dials inside should normally end up at position 8 for fuel cut (FC) and position B for overboost (O'boost)

7: Do any of the LED's light up inside the box?

Answer these and I'll think again....

Could be the box but generally it's the settings or wiring. But hey, could be the box :(

Regards

Pete

Thanks for the reply Pete.

Yes it was all connected up as per those instructions. It's not one of the new tiny units, this one doesn't have a flip lid either and is Version 2.3. The dials are set in the postions you stated, I checked those with you before installation.

I don't know about the LEDs because the unit was under the carpet and ECU cover at the time! I didn't try running it again after that because I was concerned about damaging something, also the place was full of black smoke by then too :p

Thanks for your help

Save messing around trying to diagnose a broken box.

If the new one doesn't work I would look elsewhere for the problem.

If it does work just accept my apology and return the broken unit.
