Homer
I used to subscribe to street machine too, and love some of those cars on the website Something tells me my next project (after the Supra is finished) will be a US muscle car. 71-73 Cuda or Challenger would be nice

Simon
Thank Christ others remember and bought these mags as well, IMHO much better than today. Too much eye candy today and not always enough good info.
Homer
Mig, I passed up a deal on a roughish 73 Cuda 340 and a very rough 67 fastback stang for £11k 2.5 years ago. I bought a Supra instead, much as I love my Supra it was the wrong decision!

Blame Paul E for showing me the Supra!! Ahhh drath maul showed you the darkside Don't get me wrong I love the supra also but there is something primal about a burbling V8 sountrack and tank like retro body work that just does it for me. Nice plane and simple to work on , shaved bodywork, nice wheels and keep it simple, oh and parts are soooooo much cheaper than Supras. You can pick up turnkey motors for the cost of fitting a single to a supe. On the list to do before 40. Testosterone thing i suppose, just llook at the pics above..hmmmmm. Homer
I also refused a 60's (can't remember the year, but it was late 60's) bullnose firebird 455ci for £1500. I was skint at at the time so couldn't afford it. Not in the same league as the Cude/stang/challenger/charger but still very desirable now. Miguel
Yeah the Yank brigade stuff seems to be going through its popularity circle again ( not that it ever died) and prices seem to be creeping up. Maybe the Big truck import becoming a fad recently has re-seeded the scene again. Why did i look at this thread, making me want one now .....need a JCB and a cash machine. I am selling my one to get a Supra, same sort of power but the Yanks are a heavy car. The sound of a V8 is awesome and the car gets photographed loads. A 455 for £1500, you should of bought it! My 400 is for sale for 6.5K to finance my Supra Lust...

markssupra
I remember buying street machine when I first started driving. Drooling over some really gorgeous cars. There used to be a few great looking cars at the southend cruise about 20 years ago, (showing my age now). one in particular was an orange Dodge Charger called Direct Connection with a 7.5 litre lump, the noise of that was just beautiful. geoffvalenti
This was my '69 Plymouth GTX 440 6 pack (7.2 litre V8 with 3x2 barrel Holley carbs) It used to run about 400bhp, so didn't hang about 2 Cherry bombs made the soundtrack interesting

Miguel
I'm SO gonna get a big muscle car before I'm 35 !!! 2 of us. Now ill it be old school muscle or some of the new retro muscle?
Muffleman
Hmm, good question. Part of me thinks old school muscle, just for the sheer supercharged 7litreness of it. But new retro muscle might just hold on to a bend. Hmmmmmmmm.
geoffvalenti
Everyone should own at least one 60-70s muscle car in their lifetime, I've had a few, mainly Mopars, and not regretted owning any of them Saying that, I rather like the look of the new Dodge Challenger (if it actually materialises) The old stuff, these days, is fetching good money for substandard crap, decent cars are a second mortgage. I was seriously looking last year to get another Mopar (440, of course ) but anything that was for sale was very expensive and poor condition. In the end I bought the Griffith, it was another car I'd always wanted, and TBH a lot more driveable on a (semi) regular basis. I'm sure that in the end I'll have another US muscle car, but with a Supra and a Griffith at my disposal, I can't really think of myself as hard done by
