Chris Wilson
Last nigh bidding ended on a heater I was after, I lost out to 2 higher bidders, but today i received the message below. The sender of the message is not the same name as the guy listed as the seller. Am I being gazumpped or something? Thanks. @@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@ Congratulations newbury_house, You expressed interest in an item titled - Powrmatic CPO100 Workshop / Space Heater (Oil Fired) - (Item 7582957015) by bidding, however the auction has ended with another member as the high bidder. In compliance with eBay policy, the seller of that item is making this Offer to you at your bid price, because the winning bidder was unable to complete the transaction. You have the Second Chance to buy this item at your bid price of £550.00 . If you accept this offer, you will be able to exchange Feedback with the seller and will be eligible for eBay services associated with a transaction, such as fraud protection. To purchase this item contact the seller directly at: [email protected] . Thank you, eBay, Inc NOTE : DO NOT RESPOND TO THIS QUESTION IN MY MESSAGES,AS YOUR MESSAGE WILL NOT BE RECEIVED - Contact the seller directly at this e-mail address : [email protected] @@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@

Rayman
Yeh there asking for all correspondance outside of ebay for obvious reasons. Bin it and stick to buying thru ebay!
Mike
I honestly don't know as these ebay scams get more elaborate by the day... The 'second chance' offer is a real thing on eBay.. it's basically if the winning bidder can't pay(apparently) then instead of the seller having to re-list they can offer it to the next highest bidder.. In essence what they are doing is selling the item, creating a new login, then artificially bidding against you to see how far your prepared to go, ultimately winning the auction, and then offering it to you for a highest price you went to... I would say find another auction personally....
Chris Wilson
So I was bidding against the vendor, really? Is there any way to tell if he was trying this with the other heater he was selling? That went up to crazy money, over a grand...
merckx
I don't think you're necessarily bidding against the vendor, sometimes the vendor has a few identical items for sale and was happy with the amount that the losing bidders actually bid. So rather than putting a new advert on Ebay they'll sell them to the losing bidders. But there is a scam where you get sent a chance offer , when you click on the link the advert is exactly the same but the username has changed. This would normally come from an unknown third party who was monitoring the original genuine sale.
toyotasuprauk
You can get a 2nd chance offer on ebay but I've sent one before and it doesnt look like that. This one IS a scam because it says "NOTE : DO NOT RESPOND TO THIS QUESTION IN MY MESSAGES,AS YOUR MESSAGE WILL NOT BE RECEIVED - Contact the seller directly at this e-mail address : [email protected]" If you contact the seller via the ask a question and see if they sent this it will help clear things up but I would still not go ahead with this as even if it wasnt a scammer but just the seller trying not to pay eBays fees you will have no protection. But I'm 98% sure if you contact the seller as stated above they will come back saying they did not send the offer. If so you should contact ebay in regards. That went up to crazy money, over a grand... OK, I might be being cynical then, but hey... I find that way you don't tend to get 'done' so much! I would say it won't be the vendor directly... or if he's clever it won't be! but it could be anyone's id.. registered at a different address etc. Usually this practise was safeguarded against in ebay as the seller would pay 'sellers fees' so if they won the auction, and they would have to re-list... which is obviously not good... however ebay now seem to be aiding these people...
